Voting has opened for the 2010 Countryside Alliance Awards, whereby local people can nominate their favourite Haverhill stores, shops or tradespeople for the prestigious prize.

Dubbed the 'Rural Oscars', the awards promote local businesses that sustain or encourage British food, farming techniques, traditional skills and enterprise.

Haverhill MP, Matthew Hancock has also put his support behind the awards, encouraging people across Haverhill to get involved and show their appreciation for the local economy.

"These awards are a terrific way for local communities to show their appreciation of those who support our rural way of life in West Suffolk. We all know people who work hard to support our communities - without them, life would be that bit poorer."

"I would encourage everyone to nominate their favourite local business. It is time that people of West Suffolk got the national recognition they deserve."

Voting for the Awards is open, so get voting at the Countryside Alliance website.
