Here’s just some of the latest news, job vacancies and volunteering opportunities from the St Nicholas Hospice in Haverhill.

What is happening? - Work to bring hospice care into the community is underway at the Burton Centre, Haverhill.

The building has been stripped and walls are being knocked down. The equipment needed to deliver care is also being lined up thanks to support from Suffolk Community Foundation.

The foundation has given the Hospice a grant of £1,865 to enable it to purchase a wide neurology couch for physiotherapy and a minor surgery couch for complementary therapies.

Call for more Hospice Neighbours - Hospice Neighbours is a community-based and volunteer-led service that provides practical support and companionship to people and their families living with life-shortening conditions.

Hospice Neighbours get involved with a variety of things. This can include picking up prescriptions, taking the dog for a walk, light shopping and gardening or simply providing company to a patient or their carer. The work is directed by what the person needs, rather than prescribing a particular way of doing things.

The Big Chilli Dip - This is the Hospice's newest challenge event. Could you swim 10 lengths in a pool containing waters of just six degrees? A bowl of chilli will be waiting for the successful swimmers.

Moreton Hall Health Club has made its outdoor pool available for the challenge. Local business, The Coffee House, is cooking the chilli with donated mince from Ruse and Sons.
