The Future of Haverhill
4th July 2010

The Best of Haverhill July business meeting will take place on 15th July at The Days Inn Haverhill from 10am to 11.30am.  The theme “Wanting the best for Haverhill” continues with Patsy Dell, Head of Planning and Economic Development Services at St Edmundsbury Borough Council leading an informal discussion on the future of Haverhill.

Patsy will take stock of the changes that have occurred over the past few years and their impact on the town.  The arrival of Tesco, the multiplex cinema, the new-look Queen Street, the refurbished leisure centre and the new football facility have all contributed to raising the profile of the town and improving what Haverhill has to offer. In order for Haverhill to experience continued improvements and further economic growth there needs to be a long term plan for the town, a vision for the future.

Patsy explains, “Planning is a complex issue encompassing so many different areas.  Housing, shops, businesses and industries, open spaces, schools, transport, health services, social services and leisure activities all influence the look and feel of a town and are integral parts of the planning process.   As a Borough Council we need to ensure that we formulate a cohesive plan, which considers all of these elements and results in a town where people want to live, work, shop and spend their free time.”

The meeting provides a forum for discussion and local businesses are invited to share their views on what they think Haverhill needs in 2031 – and how that vision can be realised.

Everyone has an opinion on how Haverhill can be improved. Whether it is a better retail offer, more affordable and executive housing, hi-tech employment opportunities, improved transport infrastructure or a greater range of activities for young people to engage in – the list is endless!  The 15th July is an opportunity for businesses to make their views known to the Borough Council, so please join us.  If you cant' make it to the event but would still like to ask a question, make a comment or share your view please email me at haverhill@thebestof.co.uk.
