For the kids, half term can’t roll around quickly enough, but for us parents, it can be an absolute nightmare (which is apt as it encompasses the Halloween weekend!)

Here at thebestof Haverhill, we thought we’d make life a little easier with some great ideas for all ages:

Holiday Camps

Abbeycroft Leisure Centre is running Holiday Camps throughout October half term, from 9am until 5pm from Monday 24th October until Friday 28th. Filled with a wide variety of sports, they are suitable for children aged 8 and over and are delivered by fully qualified assistants.

The Holiday Camps are divided into morning and afternoon sessions (although you are more than welcome to take part for the whole day). Morning or afternoon sessions cost £7.50 for the first child and £6 for subsequent children in the family. Full day tickets cost £14 for the first child and £11.20 for additional children. Alternatively, if your child is a sports fanatic or you’re struggling to find suitable childcare while you’re at work, you could opt for a week camp, which cost £62.50 for the first child and £50 for any additional children.

Make sure that you provide your child with swimwear, irrespective of whether they are visiting the Leisure Centre for a morning, afternoon, full day or whole week. Please also ensure that you provide lunch.

Is 9am too late or 5pm too early for your work schedule? Why not opt for the early drop-off at 8:30am and late pick-up at 5:30pm for an extra £2.50? Just make sure that you book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Feed the Birds

East Town Park Visitor Centre in Haverhill is the place to be if your child wants to get ‘hands-on’ with the local wildlife and Feed the Birds. Suitable for 5 to 12 year olds, children can join the Rangers from 10am until 12 noon on 25th October to learn how to make bird feeders, which they can then take home to put in their own gardens.

Booking is essential and tickets cost £4 per child. Please also note that this event is not suitable for children with nut allergies.

Theo the Mouse

What do you mean, you’ve never heard of Theo the Mouse? From the writer of television classics such as the Basil Brush Show and The Sooty Show comes the country’s funniest mouse, along with magic, music and laughter for the whole family.

Taking place at Haverhill Arts Centre at 2pm on 27th October 2011, Theo the Mouse will be joined by Wink Taylor from The Sooty Show and the fabulous Wendy Abrahams.
