BRAINTREE TOWN 4   HAVERHILL ROVERS 1

Owen Longley’s opening goal for Haverhill gave them hope in this game as they matched their opponents from four divisions higher, but the hosts soon got a grip on the game and ran out winners.

Longley’s goal came on 12 minutes, a ball across from the left by Tye Alleyne met by Longley first time from 12 yards out, leaving the home goalkeeper unsighted and rooted to the spot as it found the bottom left corner of the net.

A Michael Shinn free kick went close to the Braintree goal before the hosts equalised, away ‘keeper Tom Pinker unfortunately fumbling the ball to allow the home side to get back into the game.

A nicely worked goal gave them the lead on 28 minutes, a 34th minute goal giving them a half time lead with the goals coming either side of a Martyn Farrant diving header going just wide of the mark.

Braintree also added a further goal on 89 minutes.
