THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE CUP FIRST ROUND

HAVERHILL ROVERS 1   NEWMARKET TOWN 2

Haverhill Rovers leave defeated to Newmarket leaving the Suffolk Premier Cup match against Mildenhall on Tuesday as their remaining cup competition this campaign.

It all started so well for the hosts as they took the lead with just 41 seconds on the watch, a poor back pass from Newmarket’s Mark Webster pounced on by Ryan Weaver, who sent goalkeeper Daniel Gentry the wrong way with his shot that found the bottom right corner of the net.

Haverhill’s advantage lasted until the 21st minute, Steve Holder’s 25 yard first time curling effort deceiving everyone as it swung a fair few feet towards goal to leave ‘keeper Alex Archer rooted to the spot and find the net after it looked to be going wide.

A Newmarket goal from the edge of the box on 67 minutes gave them what proved to be the winning goal, efforts from Lawrence Healey, Simon Newnes and Marcus Hunt in the last ten minutes proving to be unfruitful.

ROVERS : Archer, Moody, Kemp, Gardner, Farrant, Hunt, Haines (Newnes), Baker, Weaver (Healey, 46), Alleyne, Kicks. Sub not used – Shinn.
