Do something for charity this summer

This summer, we’re all looking forward to weeks of sun, lazy days and family outings.

Yet, there are many events taking place in the near future that are not only fun, but also help support a wide range of incredibly worthwhile charities. Can you spare a little time and make a real difference?

Help for Heroes

Do you have a few hours to spare tomorrow or Saturday? Help for Heroes Tesco Collection Days are taking place on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd July, and the charity is looking for kind souls who want to support their wounded troops by volunteering to collect donations outside Haverhill Tesco.

Race for Life 2011

Who cares if you don’t look like Sally Gunnell? Tesco and Cancer Research’s Race for Life has helped fund a variety of major breakthroughs in cancer treatments for the past 17 years – breakthroughs that have literally meant the difference between life and death for many people suffering with cancer.

Why not join in 2011’s 5k Race for Life at Parker’s Piece, Park Terrace, Cambridge? Run, walk, stroll...

Races start at 11am or 2:30pm on Sunday 3rd July.

A Dog Day Afternoon...

Sunday 10th July sees Homefield Road Vetinary Surgery’s Elvedon Estate Dog Day take place – a great day out for all the family (including the pooch, of course!)

Why not enter your pet into classes taking place, such as ‘best puppy’ and ‘waggiest tail’?

Tickets cost £5 per person or £4 in advance from Elvedon Estate, all in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

‘Ab Fab, Dahling!’

With a psychic medium, tarot card reader, beauty room offering free hairstyling and nail painting, tombola, raffle, canapés, free promotional drink and goody bag for all attendees, you may be forgiven for assuming that the Absolutely Fabulous Ladies Charity Evening on Saturday, 23rd July is more about receiving than giving!

However, the event is all about celebrating local women, from supporting them in starting new businesses to helping them regain confidence, and all in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Absolutely Fabulous Ladies Charity Evening is being held at Haverhill Arts Centre from 7pm, with Haverhill’s new mayor, Maureen Byrne, guest of honour for the night.

Tickets cost just £2.

Get Your Thinking Caps On!

Fancy yourself as a bit of an ‘egghead’? Why not talk the family into taking part in Castle Manor Business and Enterprise College’s Family Quiz Night on Thursday July 30th?

Teams of up to 6 people are welcome to enter at £10 per team, with all money raised going towards building an outdoor classroom and sensory garden.

Entry forms should have been returned by June 28th but we’re sure if you ask nicely...!
