A weekend of snooker is in store for regional teams and individual competitors at the South West Snooker Academy from Friday 6th â Sunday 8th September 2013

 

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

 

FRIDAY 6th September

A day of coaching and practice. Coaching sessions, free for all entrants, will be hosted by Tim Squires of TJS-Snookerbility. Tim is an accredited World Snooker Coach, and TJS-Snookerbility is a snooker group he set up in Suffolk for people with special needs. Coaching sessions will start at 11am.

 

At 6pm there will be a meeting with team managers, players and tournament staff, to confirm profiling/grouping of new players, confirm participants, decide seeding and confirm the schedule for the remainder of the weekend’s events.

 

We are delighted to announce that Jeremy Kyle, infamous host of ITV’s morning tv show ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’ has agreed to come along on Friday evening and be challenged to a frame of snooker.

 

SATURDAY 7TH September

The Championship proper gets underway, with separate draws for each of the six Groups (details of profiles and grouping of profiles is given later in this notice). Players should register by 9:30am for a prompt start at 10:00. All matches will be best of three frames.

 

SUNDAY 8TH September

The Championship concludes, with matches commencing at 10am.

 

Snookerbility will be running an open competition for everyone, to be run on a straightforward knockout draw, starting at 11am.

 

It is hoped that the Paul Hunter Foundation Roadshow will also be able to attend during the course of the weekend, providing some fun competitions and challenges.

 

If you are a new competitor or are unsure of your profile or group, please contact the EFDS events office to discuss and arrange an appointment to be profiled prior to the competition.

 

Competitors must declare all prosthetics and sport specific aids when entering an event as it may change their group and/or profile.  It should also be declared when requesting classification.

 

THE SOUTH WEST SNOOKER ACADEMY

 

The South West Snooker Academy provides World Class practice and playing facilities, featuring 11 Star tables fitted to World Snooker specifications. 8 tables are split into two pods of four, 2 tables are in the coaching and practice suite, and there is one table in the 370-seater Kay Suzanne Theatre arena.

 

All 8 match tables have spectator facilities and there is a comfortable lounge, fully licensed bar, hot and cold meals and snacks for players and spectators (at the individuals’ own expense).

 

The Academy has fully qualified WPBSA & EBSA Coaches led by South West Snooker Academy Director of Coaching Terry Griffiths. It actively encourages new players to participate and enjoy the sport, as well as nurturing the careers of developing players, through practice and coaching. South West Snooker Academy works closely with schools and community groups in the local area, developing grass roots awareness and participation.

 

Playing conditions are perfect for the Elite players, from up and coming amateurs to the top professionals. The Academy is a WPBSA Accredited Centre of Excellence, the first of its kind in Europe.

 

The entry fee to take part in Disability Snooker's Open Snooker Championship 2013 is £25 per competitor.
