The Christmas Lights Switch on in Clare takes place next week with a festive bundle of activities to entertain the family.

St Edmundsbury Borough Councillor for Clare, Cllr Alaric Pugh has given £300 of his locality budget towards the costs of the event which takes place from 5.30pm next Friday (28).

Cllr Pugh said: “The big light switch on brings families and communities out into the centre of Clare. Some of the shops will be open late and offering various promotions. It is always a great occasion and I am delighted that I am able to support this wonderful event this year though my locality grant. I am very much looking forward to it, and of course the late night Christmas shopping night in Clare on 4 December.”

The names of children from Clare Primary School will go into a hat – the first one drawn from the hat will switch on the Town’s Christmas lights.

There will be choir singing, refreshments, side stands, a children’s fairground ride, and entertainment from Magic Olly.

Later that evening Clare Amateur Dramatics Society will perform a Christmas production of The Snow Queen at Clare Town Hall.

Meanwhile the Clare Christmas Lights Committee is seeking businesses sponsorship to raise money to switch to low energy bulbs. Contact Victoria Stone, 01787 278105.
