The best time to collect acorns, either off the tree or from the ground, is when they begin falling. Prime picking is late September, something that Haverhill Initiative ‘Enterprising Acorns’ must of known, finding a particularly exciting acorn on the 16th September at the schemes launch headed by West Suffolk MP Matthew Hancock at the new croft, home to Haverhill Football Ground.

23 year old budding Haverhill entrepreneur Ricki Baker, who attended the Launch, has gone on to leave his day job and set up shop to focus and develop his exciting new business ‘Mendmyi’ -www.mendmyi.com, a fantastic online repair service for iPhones, iPod’s & iPads’; Ricki offers an extremely unique and competitive customisation service which interestingly apple do not currently provide. Ricki Baker, who is behind the business, is moving into his new premises this week. Ricki talks of the support he has received from ‘Enterprising Acorns’.

It was the enterprising acorns launch night and the time with the mentors that finally pushed me to handing in my notice and doing it full time - was a massive help” says Ricki.

Ricki sat down with Acorn Mentor ‘Luke Gusman’ on the night of the launch, who runs the very Successful ‘Sales Media Evolution’ - a company making a revolutionary banner and screen in one which is selling to hugely successfully worldwide to companies from the BBC , Sky, Jeep and Fiat. Luke expressed his up-most interest in the business idea, praising Ricki’s efforts so far whilst sharing his start up advice.

Local business owners Theresa Foddering and Jan Cavelle, who are behind the scheme, are both incredibly excited to have a success story like this so early on in the scheme - “Becoming an enterprise nation is the way forward out of the economic gloom and this scheme is designed to help Haverhill do exactly that” says Jan.“There is much to be proud of in the business world in Haverhill and we want to grow that from strength to strength and turn the town into a hive of entrepreneurship at all levels”.

With over 30 Acorn Mentors on-board, comprising of some of East Anglia’s leading businessman and businesswomen, the scheme has now set off on its journey to help regenerate enterprise and entrepreneurship on a local level in Haverhill. The entrepreneurs eagerly await the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience to push people in the right direction, these dedicated individuals have kindly agreed to donate their time to launch the mentoring scheme.
