This public tour of Guernsey Electricity's Power Station was organised and held by thebestof Guernsey recently and was a very interesting event for local business owners, parents, children and other attendees.
This was the first public tour held at our local Power Station since the installation of Guernsey Electricity's new 3D engine last month, which they have nicknamed Freddy. The tour attendees travelled into the heart of our island's local energy generation facility, getting an up close look at Freddy, a significant investment in local power generation for the years to come.
The tour was led around the power station by Lloyd le Page, the Asset Controller for Generation at Guernsey Electricity. Lloyd explained what the tour was seeing from moment to moment, how they integrated with the cable link to France, and he explained how power generated at the facility was delivered to homes around the island. He also spoke about the long history of Guernsey Electricity, before ending the tour with a question & answer session.
Spaces were limited and with 27 people in attendance the event was fully booked. As you can see from the photos attached, everyone was resplendent in safety wear, including a hard hat! One of the attendees, David Wyatt, has reviewed the event, saying "I recently attended thebestof Guernsey's tour of the Guernsey Electricity Power Station and had a really interesting time. Thank you."
