My sister and I stayed at The Duke of Richmond Hotel. The hotel was spotless, the food was excellent but most of all the staff couldn't do enough for us. The bar staff especially George and Orlando were great advising us on which places to visit and what to see.
The reception staff and room service couldn't be faulted.

I would say this is one of the best hotels we have stayed in and would go back there again just a pity we didn't stay for longer.

We visited other hotels in Guernsey but they were not as nice as the Duke of Richmond.

just a short walk from st peter port and next door to candie gardens, the room was large with plenty of space for clothes.
bathroom was new, bright clean and all accerories replaced whenever they were needed to.
maids even came round during the day / evening to replace coffee tea etc, the breakfasts were superb with boxed cereals, not in a dsh, plenty of fresh fruit and you could order your cooked breakfast rather than it being on a buffet but a really good menu to order from.
good food from the restaurant in the evening, and a really nice bar area which is decked out in the style of a 18th century ship ! quirky but really cosy, this was part of our honeymoon and all in all we had a really good stay here, our next week was spent at the pomme dor in jersey which was more expensive and not as good

All of the staff were very effiicient and friendly, and the hotel provided all-round excellent service. Our room with sea view was very comfortable and refurbished to a good standard. The breakfast was very good and the table d'hote menu on the evening we dined in was excellent and very good value. A fair walk uphill from St Peter Port but situated in a nice area by Candie Gardens. The outdoor pool is pleasantly warm enough to use. Would definately stay here again if visiting Guernsey.

The Duke of Richmond Hotel is arguably the best hotel on the island, the staff work there socks off to make your stay with them is perfect. The food at the Duke of Richmond is of outstanding the quality and value. At the Front Desk they are so helpful, although language can be a problem sometimes. Room service can be a little slow in the mornings, I placed my breakfast order for 9:00 AM and it wasn’t delivered until 9:50PM, but admittedly the hotel was fully booked for the duration of our stay.
Moving on to the facilities the Duke of Richmond provides they are excellent, they have a Business Centre which is open daily from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM. The Hotel has 5 allocated parking spaces opposite the hotel main entrance. They also have a Cocktail Bar, located opposite the main elevator, with light meals being served at lunch and dinner. If you require any laundry to be cleaned just ask at reception and it will usually be returned to you on the same day. They also have a residents lounge with a small selection of books, traditional board games, or if you just want to relax. They also have the award winning Cambridge Restaurant, if you would like to dine there; I would suggest you make a reservation, due to it being so busy all the time. They also have an outdoor swimming pool open each day from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM, from Easter to October. Televisions in the rooms offer a good selection of channels, including satellite and Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. They have rooms to suit everybody and every budget, and excellent rooms. They have had one whole section of the Hotel Rooms refurbished which I have to say outstanding. They also offer very good rooms which you can see Jersey on a clear day.
The Hotel is Child Friendly I know this 100% because, I am a Child. And all the staff will always help you with anything. When I used to come to Guernsey I stayed with my Grandparents at the OGH, and I can see after many years of coming to Guernsey why we changed hotel.
So if you’re coming to Guernsey for whatever reason I strongly recommend you stay at the Duke of Richmond Hotel.

I have stayed many times at this hotel and is one of the better Island
hotels and have found the hotel very comfortable and efficient! really nice size hotel
not to small or to large.

Its in an excellent position however it is a small pleasant walk in to St Peter Port Town.
Some rooms are refurbished on park side and Sea View side the other
cheaper rooms are clean and comfortable.
I would recommend a refurbished room and the hotel is relaxing.
I will be returning in September!

I took my partner to Guernsey for a surprise birthday weekend away. After reading the reviews on tripadvisor and speaking to a friend who'd lived on Guernsey I decided to book 2 nights at The Duke of Richmond Hotel in St Peter Port. I'm very glad I made the choice. I found the staff extremely polite and helpful. On arrival we were told that we could check into our room early and that we could upgrade to a superior room for a grand total of £20 for the 2 nights we were staying. We were invited to look at the superior room and it was bigger and had a nicer bathroom so we happily paid the £20 as we considered it a bargain! The room was spacious and clean with a good size plasma screen TV.

The location of the hotel is very good for walking to and from St Peter Port. It is at the top of a steep hill though. We like walking and we didn't mind the hill at all but I think that some people may struggle a little with it.

The breakfast buffet along with menu choices is excellent and the portions that came from the kitchen were very generous. The breakfast staff were always attentive and friendly. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we didn't have time but the menu looked good. There is a nice bar and terrace where you can relax and have cocktails. We enjoyed sitting outside in the sunshine. We also made use of the outdoor swimming pool which was well maintained and kept at a nice temperature.

Some of the decor in the hotel is a little dated but it isn't shabby and that certainly didn't bother us. In fact, it is probably part of the hotel's charm.

I would certainly go back to this hotel in the future.

We spent a very contented and relaxing week in Guernsey. We were very well looked after, in particular the Maitre D' , Olga, who was always very friendly and super efficent, with a happy smile. The food was excellent - particularly the scrambled eggs and salmon at breakfast. Everytime we left the hotel the room was spotless when we returned.

Highly recommended.

The location is good for the town, the rooms are very good standard and the food is excellent and tremendous value. We had all our evening meals in the hotel and the chef is to be commended.

This was the fourteenth time we've holidayed on the island of Guernsey. We've stayed at 7 different hotels and discovered the Dof R only last year. Had we stayed there first we
probably would have stayed 14 times. The food once again was superb and the service
in the restaurant was again perfect even without the excellant Olga who chose to holiday in the UK as soon as we arrived. The staff were always pleasant and there were many familiar faces from last year which I believe suggests a good hotel. We did have a minor problem but it could not have been handled better than it was by Reception. And it was minor compared with our difficulty in getting home thro' volcano ash! I'm sure we'll be back

I went to Guernsey from London for short business trip with one of my colleague. We asked the HR girl to book a good hotel for us and she booked Duke of Richmond for us. We had very good stay at this hotel. The rooms were cosy and comfortable.
The food was also very good including the breakfast which was included in the price. It has got wide variety of breakfast items and also service for hot breakfast e.g. toasts, omelette, fish and chips etc.
It was situated slight over the top of hill and walking to the hotel from the city centre was little tiring but we enjoyed the walk.

Stayed for a special birthday weekend. Asked for a nice room for a celebration, but not really expecting to get any preferential treatment. Were delighted that our request had been granted with a lovely room with superb views over the gardens and harbour. The staff were all extremely pleasant and helpful, and although we only ate breakfast in the hotel the food was first class and nothing was too much trouble. Would certainly go back

We stayed in the Duke of Richmond as one of the only hotels in St Peter Port with spare capacity on Thursday 15 April when UK flights were grounded as a result of the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland. Although It is one of the more expensive hotels in St Peter Port,, it does not have any leisure facilities. The staff coped with a difficult situation where they did not know which guests would arrive on Friday by putting people on a reserve list to take cancelled rooms on a first come first served basis. They also allowed us to leave our luggage in the luggage room whilst we went to the airport to try and change our flights. We would not have stayed in this hotel by choice, but any port in a storm!

Yet another excellent weekend at the Hotel so enjoyed by the Society members attending.
The team have always looked after us so well on each occasion in the past when we have celebrated a Society event at the Duke of Richmond Hotel and I wish to formally express out gratitude to you on this occasion.
In particular the Hotel Manager responsible for the detailed arrangements and our thanks to the team of young waitresses who worked so hard in the Dining Room over the weekend. Their personal service was both friendly and efficient.
Clearly very well trained and led by the Restaurant Manager.

We have stayed at the hotel a few times before and each time, the quality of service is just as good. The staff are efficient and very attentive and courtious, always reffering to you as sir or madam. The hotel is smart, and has an ongoing refurbishment plan to ensure all the facilities and rooms are refreshed and new-looking. Some rooms have great views over St Peter Port bay and harbour, out to the islands of Herm and Sark. The hotel is at the top of a hill to the north of the town, but the hill is not too steep to reach by foot, especially via the nearby manicured public gardens.
The hotel is close to the Beau Sejour centre, used for all sports and cultural events. We visit each year for our daughter's dancing competitions. The hotel is so handy.

I usually stay here when I'm travelling on business but have just booked for a few days holiday in June. I agree with the other reviews. The staff here are really lovely. I stay maybe 4 times a year on business and they remember you. Breakfast is always good. As I usually eat out I cannot comment on the food in the evening, but the bar is great for an evening drink.
The refurbished rooms are excellent and I always book one of these. The older rooms are a bit dated but are always clean.
The hotal is next door to The Guernsey Museum, small but definitely worth a visit and their gardens have a spectacular view over the ocean.
I too have stayed in other larger hotels in Guernsey but The Duke of Richmond is my favourite by a long way

I have visited Guernsey on business every three months for the past 9 years and have stayed at this Hotel regularly, so i feel i am particularly well placed to write this review.
I have also stayed at many Hotels on the mainland so have much experience to compare.
I would rate this Hotel as excellent for everything from friendly caring staff to clean and comfortable accomodation.
You will be well looked after here and even the first impressions at the check in will be friendly and reassuring.
Breakfast here is a must........the food is freshly cooked, arrives quickly and the staff are keen to ensure your every need is met.
All the meals i have experienced in the evenings too have been a pleasant experience.
Although this Hotel is within easy reach of St Peter Port with its interesting shops and harbour views, it is far enough away from the noise of town life to ensure peaceful nights sleep and that country feeling.
It is quite simply the best hotel in Guernsey for the above reasons and i highly recommend it.

A well located hotel close to the centre of St Peter Port. Well appointed room with attractive decor and comfortable bed. Good breakfast - poached eggs just the way I like them. Cosy bar which does good food. Have stayed there 3 times over the past 12 months and have had a consistent experience. Book far enough ahead and the value for money is excellent.

Number one on TripAdvisor I was intrigued but certainly not disappointed. The staff
excelled from dealing with my booking request, through to making the room available
upon our early arrival. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The accommodation, a superior double was splendid, extremely spacious with a large beautifully refurbished bathroom. Breakfast was a most agreeable experience, and for those so inclined
there is a cosy bar which has a nautical theme. Highly recommended.

I stayed at the Duke of Richmond Hotel last month. The *** hotel is exceptionally well & professionally run. It
- offers accommodation of a good standard (probably above its *** rating)
- provides food of an exceptionally fine standard and of good value
- does the simple things really well (the true measure of any hotel)
- provides, in my view as a regular traveller to Guernsey, the best breakfast on the Island
- is spotlessly clean
- has a staff who are polite and caring (a credit to them and their management)

The Duke of Richmond is perched high on a hill overlooking Guernsey's charming main town of St Peter Port. It's an easy walk into town (well, easy going downhill into town, but a bit of a pull coming back!).
The hotel overlooks an attractive park, and the hotel's terrace has nice views over the town and the sea beyond.
Friendly and efficient staff at reception, and in the bar and restaurant.
My room was a standard double - not particularly large, but fine for a short stay. The room was comfortable and reasonably well equipped - although a decent-sized TV would have been an improvement on the tiny and slightly old-fashioned one provided). Bathroom was also fine, with a fairly basic but reasonably functional above-bath shower.
A good breakfast, with freshly baked breads, and hot items cooked to order (but the usual "budget" hotel orange juice).
Outdoor pool - but definitely not in use in January!
Public areas not especially luxurious, but comfortable and welcoming.
So overall the Duke of Richmond is a decent choice for a short stay in Guernsey.

A lovely hotel with excellent staff. We stayed for Christmas and will return next year. Food and entertainment both very good and lots of choice.

The organisation is second to none. Staff, immaculately dressed, most friendly and helpful. All needs, suggestions looked into with care. Just ask. Room overlooking harbour was superb. Clean, warm and all in place. Refurbishment has clearly been a great success. Breakfast offers a good selection of English and continental foods. Food cooked fresh, hot, good sized portions, served with minimum waiting time. Bar service and bar food excellent. Prices competitive with other hotels in the area. This is the tenth or eleventh visit made and it just seems to get better. No rowdiness in this hotel. Peace and tranquility reigns. All in all another successful outing. We will of course be returning.
