Owing to unprecedented demand for tickets to its Valentine’s raceday this Sunday (Feb 12), Exeter Racecourse has taken the extraordinary decision to close ticket sales on the day.
Having already secured a record number of advance sales for Sunday’s popular fixture, the Racecourse will continue to offer a limited number of tickets for sale right up until midnight on Saturday but stresses that tickets will not be available to purchase on the raceday itself.
Alice Everitt, General Manager of the Racecourse, said: “Such huge pre-sales are fantastic for Exeter and we are greatly looking forward to a wonderful afternoon’s racing here on Sunday. Our two for £10 Valentine’s ticket offer, now in its third year, has become an established and very popular concept and the upsurge in demand for tickets has also arisen from a recent lack of racing across the country and a fantastic looking card of racing in prospect.”
She added: “Obviously we are extremely sorry that we will not be able to offer tickets for sale on the raceday – the decision has been made on the grounds of Health and Safety and we are naturally committed to providing the very best experience for all our racegoers on the day. We very much hope that racegoers still wishing to come racing will seize the opportunity to book their tickets over the next couple of days in order to avoid disappointment.”
In light of the high crowd expectation, the Racecourse Management has taken the decision to open the gates an hour early, at 11.00am, in order to allow for the extra volume of traffic anticipated. The Racecourse is advising racegoers and connections to allow extra time to get to the course and to aim to arrive early.
