Just called the WRAS emergency line as I had found a young seagull that looked like it had just been hit by a car, as its wing was turned up. The lady on the phone was very helpful and asked if I could catch it however it wasn’t possible. She contacted another person to ask if they could collect it. Within minutes I had a phone call from a man who said he was 5 minutes away. The car turned up and he arrived with a cat box, caught the seagull kindly and quickly and put it in the box. I was very worried the seagull may run into the road again, but this rescue was amazing and so quick. Thank you to the team!

I volunteer here occasionally when I can, with a good friend. Very friendly atmosphere, there are some very dedicated people here, but they can always do with ad hoc volunteers, so if your passion is caring for wildlife and you have some spare time, this is the place for you! You will be most welcome.

Took in a baby Pidgeon & a baby Mole that I had brought to them. Told me they would be very well cared for & then released when they were better & older. They also gave me information on how to get updated on their care & release, in the future. Highly recommend them for wildlife care. Thank you for helping these two animals back to health ❤️

Rang and left a message about an injured Crow. Promptly contacted and informed of what they were going to do. Reassuringly called later to be informed of how they had dealt with that situation. Very impressed with their service and happy to say Crow doing well. Many thanks Tim

I just called today for a super sick fox that was in our neighbours front garden. They were here within the hour. That poor animal was in so much distress and it was brilliant how well it was handled.

Took my wife to the Hedgehog experience for an Xmas present. The staff were really friendly. The presentation was long, but each segment was informative and didn't outstay its welcome. The tour around the other animals was a nice added bonus. Holding and cleaning up after the hedgehog was what rounded the experience off for my wife. I would definitely recommend.

Lisa was wonderful on the phone and Kelly and her colleague did a fantastic job of coming to collect the injured fox from my garden shed. All the ladies involved showed great compassion for the animal and a genuine kindness. Thank goodness such wonderful people exist.

I don't usually post reviews but felt inclined to as my experience with WRAS was great.

Today we found a pretty unwell hedgehog. I was a little apprehensive to call for help as I've called different places in different parts of the UK for hedgehogs before, and felt palmed off. But this couldn't have been more opposite. The staff were lovely, especially the receptionist who answered. They listened and acted with genuine care, and told us what to do. They even gave us a reference number to check on how the hedgehog is doing in the next few days (we named him Spud). Great service.

It’s an amazing place founded by Trevor Weeks.
Just outside Whitesmith, they will take in most injured wildlife birds and smaller animals. If they don’t have the right type of accommodation, they will work with other Rescue organisations. The ambulance service travels all over Sussex to rescue injured and trapped wild animals.
The staff are very dedicated and lovely, and a huge team of volunteers give their time to cleaning out the animal cages and pens and keeping up with all of the washing and feeding.

I live in East Saltdean & had such a positive experience with the WRAS with a badly injured bird that had flown into the glass doors of our living room. RSPCA did not want to know & did nothing to help when contacted, but WRAS were totally different. Came round very quickly, were caring & very experienced in how they handled &
removed the bird to have medical treatment it needed. They also called to let me know that the bird had recovered after treatment & could be released back into the wild. Can not recommend this charity & the caring people who volunteer for them enough - they are amazing & lovely people😊

Found a poorly bird on the way back from work and rang WRAS. They answered straight away and gave clear advice over the phone and said they would come to help. Luckily the bird was okay in the end, was very appreciative of the advice. Thank you

Today we found a baby rabbit whilst travelling between jobs, just sat in the middle of the road and looking a little under the weather. We managed to make him comfortable in a hoody and drove to the WRAS.

The staff were excellent and gave me some information on where I can receive an update on how he’s doing. Fingers crossed he will be ok.

We’re so lucky to have a charity like this on our door step. Thank you for all you do!

I was gifted a 3 hour hedgehog experience for my birthday which I was thrilled with. This needs to be booked well in advance as it's very popular but is easily done via email (it's run by volunteers so be patient when waiting for a reply).
I attended yesterday and it was fantastic! There were supposed to be 3 others doing it with me but they were no shows so I basically had a one to one for the whole time with the very knowledgeable and engaging Jane.
She showed me round the whole place (they have a wide variety of birds and animals at any given time) before spending some time in a classroom setting learning all about hedgehogs which was very interesting.
Then it was time to get hands on! They had 9 hogs in on the day (though can be many more at certain times of the year) and I was able to help clean out their cages and hold each one to get a closer look, make friends and get plenty of photos and videos. They really are the cutest of creatures and real characters! The time went far too quickly but I cannot thank the staff enough for what was a most enjoyable time. They do very worthwhile work here rescuing all sorts of wild animals and nursing them back for release and I would urge everyone to support this cause and sign up for the hedgehog experience - you will not be disappointed!!
