Stayed here for a weekend and I have to admit I was a bit worried because I'm a really picky vegetarian.
Room was quite small but clean...no wallowing in the bath, super small...shower nice and hot and good pressure. Towels etc replaced and all clean. Beds comfy.
We had a seaview, which we hadn't specifically requested, opposite the bandstand. Lovely view and not noisy at all.
The restaurant staff really could not have been more accommodating...although there was only one vegetarian option for Saturday dinner when I said I didn't like it they offered to go and get me anything I fancied! Landed up with a smashing salad and deep fried Brie..result!
It's not five star, it's an old fashioned seaside hotel. And it does that brilliantly.
If you're not keen on stairs you could be waiting a while...lift seems to have a mind of it's own.

Eastbourne itself was a pleasant surprise: clean, friendly, good shopping centre, easy access to beach, and the front was not over commercialised. The hotel overlooks "The Bandstand" so you get free concerts if you have a front/sea facing room.
Yes the floors can creak.

I have just had a week in the Cumberland hotel. Firstly the hotel is dated and in places it is nice, not very often I moan but you couldn't actually of made up what I've just experienced. We arrived on the Saturday 19th Aug 2017 pand the toilet wouldn't flush, other people were saying this too, we managed to rectify this by leaving it a while before the second flush. Our curtain track in the bedroom started to come down which left the curtain teetering on the edge of falling down we reported this, the duty manager wrote it in the maintainence book. We then had the shower head fight, this wouldn't stay up on the wall unless we wasn't using it, I reported this too. We came back one day to find the room hadn't been cleaned and our wet towels were still in the bath, so guess what, I reported this and fetched my own towels from a lovely woman from behind the bar. Next day we had a phone call in our room to say they wanted to come look at our bath as there was a flood downstairs in the ladies and they thought it was coming from our room, they then asked for our key as they said they didn't have a master key, they then for a while lost our key, I was now losing the Will to live. The cherry on the icing was, we came back to find in their wisdom they had come into our room using the master key they couldn't find before and decided to put mastic sealant around the bath and not left any window open for ventilation, the smell was unbelievable and even the nice duty manager agreed and offered us another room for the night. Btw the curtains were still falling as they hadn't been sorted. The other room was ok but the bed was dipping to one side. The hotel manager never bothered to come speak with me but did manage a vacant stare on her way out, she gave me a letter that made all my complaints look and sound my fault and a good will gesture of £50, this I may add will be going to charity as you know what you do with your good will.

Once again the Cumberland Hotel staff have go out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed to make sure the #EBtweetup went off without a hitch. Last night we used their projector and screen. I have always avoided using this technology at our events as the speaker slots are normally rather shot but with the topic being LinkedIn we needed some extra live examples. I am pleased to say from plugging in to having power available all went without hitch. A pleasure to host events at the hotel.

This is the second time my brother and myself, have stayed in this hotel. It is well maintained, and in an ideal seafront position. This affords easy access to shops,the sea and bus/train services.
The staff are very helpful, and we booked an evening dinner. The restaurant (which has attractive art deco features) faces the sea. Despite a very large coach party, we received very prompt and helpful service. Our meal came up quickly, and was well cooked and presented.
I can recommend this hotel for value for money too.

When we arrived I booked a table for dinner and was told this would be our table for our stay. You can't have dinner until you have asked reception. only stayed for one night as visiting family, soon as we turned up was met by lovely lady at reception, made us feel very welcome, room we booked was facing back of hotel but because we were only staying 1 night it the view didn't matter to us. room was very clean and comfy, beds were a dream to sleep in (twins as no doubles left) only gripes was it was so hot and windows don't open and no fan etc...very warm and the shower head holder coming off wall but....breakfast was really tasty thanks, would defo stay here again

We upgraded to a room with a seaview and ensuite. The room has not been decorated in years, the windows are rotten and some of the woodwork is just held together with the paint. The bed was uncomfortable with a small double.
The door to the ensuite doesn't close properly and it is the smallest room I've ever seen!
Having upgraded we thought we were getting a good room but talking to some of the other guests we found we paid a lot more for a poor quality room.
On checking out we mentioned our concerns and were told that we should have complained before using the room, our complaint is that we had upgraded and thought the other rooms were worse.

Warmly welcomed on arrival. Cases taken up to our room. Lift to all floors. Our room was big, and very clean. Tea, coffee and biscuits, replenished every day. Lovely fluffy towels. Clean bathroom, shower over the bath. The room was cleaned every day to a very high standard. The twin beds were both very comfortable and clean. All the staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful. We felt very well looked after. Big thanks to the chef. The meals, both breakfast and dinner were lovely. Buffet breakfast, everything was hot, and plenty of choice. The same with dinner, 3 courses plus coffee and again a good choice. No frozen food, lovely fresh vegetables every night. I would highly recommend this hotel and would come back again.

Good value in a nice location on the promenade. It felt like dated, especially the rooms and bathroom. Everything worked, service was good. Breakfast was a mix of the usual English breakfast mainstays as a serviced buffet, with specific items that could be ordered. It has a bar and seating, with a small terrace and sun room. Good place to crash for a night or two, if all you need is a bed.
Just had my 3rd Afternoon Tea here. Today was a treat for my Mum who had a birthday last week so invited my Aunt and Uncle to join us for a Sussex Cream Tea. It might be the smaller of the options but certainly tasty and we all felt pleasantly "full" but won't ruin dinner. Even being slightly overcast today the sun lounge was warm and everyone was comfortable.

Elaine Blake, the Manager, couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating and due to her advice we had a fantastic DJ too. We had a buffet and the selection of food, and quality, was excellent at an extremely reasonable price too.
The downstairs ballroom was the ideal location for the event, which was beautifully laid out, and an added advantage was the hotel itself was closed to staying guests that weekend so it was like we had our own private venue with excellent staff. It was great to see that Tom, who had been our waiter when we had our afternoon tea in February, was allocated to be on duty that night. He had a great team of staff (Sharon, Jason and Mike) who were welcoming, friendly, and very efficient at clearing tables, replenishing drinks and ensuring our guests were taken care of and that everything ran smoothly. Thanks, too, to the kitchen staff for the lovely food and hard work they did behind the scenes.
Everything was superb. The amount of praise that our guests made about the food and the staff was extremely well deserved. Steve was an excellent DJ and the dance floor was busy most of the night. I think the only time it was empty was when my husband was blowing out his candles/cutting his cake/making his speech!
So “thank you” to Elaine and her staff for making our event so special.

Found at last a place that serves Sunday roast. Four types of properly cooked veg. A selection of roasts beef pork and turkey. Roast and mashed potatoes. Two courses for £13.50. Service was excellent.
Only one criticism the tables were too close together for comfortable conversation.
This hotel offers great customer service. I have enjoyed many a business event, meeting and most recently a very delicious cream tea.
Highly recommend to others for events - and the cream tea :) .

Rooms for £40/night, lots of space for organised events, and friendly staff. Would highly recommend this hotel for people looking for a cheap hotel in Eastbourne. Breakfast has a good number of hot and cold food choices, although the times are a bit inflexible (8-9:30 on a weekend is a bit early in my opinion). Bar has a good choice of beer, wine and spirits, and the prices are decent. Only improvement would be making the showers "power showers"

I was at this hotel for a week on a whist holiday. it was 1 of the best whist holidays are group has ever had. There were 82 of us and the food, service and generally running of the hotel was second to none. The waiting staff, receptionists and chamber maids were all efficient and friendly. The hotel is in a great position on the sea front and a stones throw from the shops. I would also like to say a big thank you to Billy and Carole who run the whist drive and give us such a wonderful holiday. Thank you all.

I have had a cream tea at the Cumberland Hotel before and I really enjoyed it. When the chance came up again to treat a client of mine I opted for the “celebration” afternoon tea. It is really good value for money and I still feel full a good couple of hours later. The prosecco and strawberries really add to the occasion and the sun lounge is perfect with stunning views of the sea front. I faced Eastbourne Pier and it was just a brilliant and relaxing afternoon “relaxed meeting”

Booked a table for 1.30pm and was seated immediately at 1.15pm.
Hostess took our drinks order straight away and informed us that Mother's can have a free glass of wine (red, white or rosè). Our drinks arrived quickly and we went up to the carvery.
There was a selection of top side of beef, Turkey or lamb. Our table tried all 3 and all concurred they were delicious! Not fatty or dry.
To accompany the meat there were roast & baby potatoes, stuffing balls, Yorkshires, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, red cabbage, peas & cauliflower cheese. All of the buffet was well stocked and extremely hot! (In fact the plates were too hot but that's my only complaint).
Included in the price was a choice of desserts; fudge cake & cream, fruit crumble & rum custard or ice cream. Again, between our party we tried all three. The crumble was the best we'd had in years.
Our table was cleared within a good time frame, despite being busy and the staff were friendly and attentive.
We can't wait to go back!!
