Exactly what was needed after a long day walking the South Downs Good value, great location. Sea view was great, room bigger than expected Lift was out of order, not a big problem for me. With a sea view comes early morning seagulls! earplugs recommended

Good The hotel is really close to the beach, location is a big plus I think the price is too much for this how the hotel looks like (really old fashion)

Hotel is good for a couple of nights, however, I would expect a bit more for the value. The hotel is very well situated and offers everything you need for your stay. Also, have to mention very comfortable beds. The hotel style is very old. The bathroom is small (one person at a time). The shower flowed very little and also the hairdryer is old and gets very easily overheated (2 girls in the room with medium hair length). Furthermore, getting to the hotel room is a little bit like going through a maze.

We stayed at the Cumberland Hotel 24/6/22 – 25/6/22

We were a bit concerned about the number of poor reviews but also noted that most of them were for 2021 and before.

The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment and the bedroom we were allocated (308) had obviously been refurbished. Most of the furniture was new. The shower over the bath was temperamental and there was the shower curtain that is never ideal over a bath.

The major issue we had was the room was meant to have a King sized bed but only had a standard double. We noted another review mentioned this and it was not resolved for them so we didn’t consider it worth complaining.

All the staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was typical English and included fruit juice, porridge, cereals, toast and full English cooked. All good quality. Do not expect any continental style food.

We can recommend this hotel but only give it 3 stars because of the important issue of the bed, we chose the room because it was advertised with a King bed.

Our stay was comfortable and enjoyable in a friendly atmosphere. Room was nice size with clean bathroom and comfy bed. We did not have breakfast and went out early in the morning. We did visit the bar on the evening and staff were very friendly. Everything we did was great. Was not in hotel for long as checked in late. Went out for a meal. Spent the rest of the evening in the bar and checked out early the following morning.

We stayed for 4 nights with a party from our club. The hotel is in a nice spot on the seafront opposite the bandstand. Our room was on the side next to a busy road and traffic noise, as well as night revellers, was intrusive. The room was large with a king size bed (mattress needed replacing as most uncomfortable). Bathroom was shabby but clean. Breakfast is good, buffet fruit, toast and cereal, help yourself, served with fried breakfast but choice of how its made up, kippers on request at £3 extra. Evening meal is chosen at breakfast, choice of 3 or 4 meals, starters and sweets with salads as separate choice. Beware, there is a surcharge of £3 for fresh fruit salad or cheese and biscuits. Meal portions are good and typical mains include hake in cheese sauce, chicken chasseur, beef curry, shepherd's pie. Do let them know in advance if you need vegetarian or vegan meals, they try hard to accommodate! Bar prices (as elsewhere in Eastbourne) are excessive (£5.30 for a bottle of Old Speckled hen and £15+ for a double gin), we drank in Wetherspoons! Overall, a pleasant stay with polite and helpful staff.

Very relaxing weekend escape from London! Brilliant location for the beach and shops. Lots of nice restaurants but avoid the closest fish and chip shop and head for the one on the pier or any other! Take a nice walk to the end of the pier, a good selection of bars and eating places. I liked everything!

Hotel well located, friendly staff but hotel was old, worn, noisy and uncomfortable. Not good value. Staff were friendly and helpful, hotel was well located and seaview was lovely Hotel was old and worn, bathroom was tired, but relatively clean, bed was very uncomfortable too soft and hurt my back. The extra bed for our child was broken and was wedged up against the wardrobe so we couldn't store our clothes anywhere
