Finally something different...this place is just perfect, I really can't find anything I would change!
The owner is dedicated, passionate and with a fantastic wines knowledge: its defo worthy to get some suggestions for the wine to go with your food. The staff is extremely polite and friendly as well, I felt like a friend from my first step in and not as a walking wallet :DThe food is a win too, I have been there three times so far as couple and with friends for a birthday and had everything from their original nibbles to charcuterie to three course meals and it was all absolutely delicious. I was also impressed of the freshness and quality of the ingredients. I have been in almost all the restaurants in the area and this is with no doubt my favourite. Shame I can't score 6 stars!

Firstly I will start by saying customers come as top priority at this chic, laid back, classy establishment. My initial enquiry regarding could they cater for my unusual but severe allergy were met with "no problem, we cook from scratch" followed by an email with their entire menu & any little adjustments the chef had made for me. Talking of the chef, he seems to relish the chance to show off his skills even if you need a little special attention. The end result was the best lunch we have had for a long long time. Sophie looked after us & she clearly loves what she does, friendly, chatty & nothing too much trouble, service with a very big smile. My burger was full of flavour, with perfect chips & presented well. My partners wild mushroom & asparagus risotto was in her words "the best I've ever had". The wine is divine & Sophie was more than happy to suggest if we needed help. Price wise very reasonable, in fact I thought the bill would be more, if that is not a sign of a first class place I don't know what is !!. We are now planning for our return visit & this is sure to become our regular haunt for dinner,lunch, or glass of vino (they also serve selected beers). Can't recommend highly enough, a lot of love has been invested in Cru & it shows. One bit of advice as word continues to spread how good it is you may need to book in advance. Exceptional places don't stay secret very long. ;)

I came here with friends on a busy Friday night (which is always a promising start).
We had a selection of tapas to start which included squid, ribs, lobster bisque and croquettes. Everything was outstanding and the presentation and taste of the food was top class. I had seabass as my main which was cooked to perfection and then once again presented beautifully. The choice of wine to compliment our meals was advised by Hardy who is very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this place.

We were lucky enough to win free tickets to attend the Portuguese wine tasting evening at Cru and we had a fantastic time. We'll be sure to book in for next time. Visited Cru many times prior to this and the food, wine, service and ambiance is always faultless. Credit to the lovely owners!

Not many places in Eastbourne that are known for great food,but this is one of them! Cute,modern wine bar, superb selection of wines and delicious food-such a refreshing change for Eastbourne! Will definitely be returning! My husband is a chef and was very impressed. Well done to the whole team!

Eastbourne is struggling to produce eateries that provide quality food that isn't found in a pub or cafe. Cru Bucks the trend. On arrival we were greated from the moment we entered the restaurant. Although the restaurant is relatively small there is a relaxed feeling of chilled space with calm lighting Whilst we chose the food I was presented with a very respectable wine list more commonly found in a Michelin star restaurant. It is hard to believe that this hard working couple started this business just 4 months ago as the aura of this vibrant restaurant has a maturity and understanding of its customer that would take years to evolve.
I chose the Scallops which were immaculately cooked and very tasty paired with Black Pudding and creamed potatoes.The mature steaks followed and they were cooked rare just as requested. Whilst many say it is easy to cook a steak. I disagree.... it is as easy to over cook a steak...these were perfect and extremely tasty
Whilst this is a personal review I would just like to say that The Smiths record in the background only enhanced my experience.To summarise this cracking restaurant is a breath of fresh air and wouldn't think twice to return. A huge well done to the owners, they have really captured the demands of the serious eater and drinker without making their offer too fussy.

We visited Cru due to a recommendation from a friend. I am glad we did as It was wonderful, the food was amazing and the staff could not have been more helpful even when my little boy smashed a glass . We will definitely be going back!!

Just been down to Cru for the first time, well overdue. I have to say this place is fabulous - very Hove. The wine list is superb, the food even better. Who thinks of sparkling wine batter for fish and chips - superb -so much better than beer. The music is also amazing - very cool, the lighting just right. In fact Cru get's it right with just about everything - even their business cards are super quality. They charged my phone while I was there and the prices are labelled in the cool hip London way ie 13 not 13.95. Waitress had knowledge of the wines omg Eastbourne watch out. Very understated brilliance.Recommend this place 100% you will not be disappointed.

Have now been to Cru 3 times and it is hard to find any negatives about this place,The menu is fairly small but a good balance of dishes the wine list is extensive and they certainly know their wines. If you like a smooth Merlot try No 124 it's beautiful.

Top food again . I love the squid in this place it's a must .great roast stunning bottle of laroche chablis wife paid what can be better . And a free bottle of wine to take home for every father . Nice touch indeed ...

We visited as a group of 6 on Saturday 18th June and had a superb dining experience, the personal attention given by everyone as soon as you walked through the door was perfect. We had drinks at the bar before sitting down to an exceptional meal, we all tried to choose various meals from the menu and tasted each other's once served. We all agreed that all dishes served tasted great and the service complimented this too. If you like your wine as a novice interest to 'know a bit about various grapes' you will enjoy CRU's wine list, this along with their original selection of beers and ales allows you to indulge in an amazing dining experience. Thoroughly worth a visit we have already booked a return!! 5 stars

The staff was very friendly and very helpful with the menu had a good choice of food and wines I had goat cheese to start and sirloin steak which was very tender and home made chips for sweet I had rhubarb and custard cheese cake was to die for it was excellent all in all it was a very good meal and I'm looking forward to go back again

After reading reviews on TripAdvisor we booked at the new trendy wine bar, Cru, just down the road from where we were staying with family. It's a new basement restaurant. Two of us are vegetarians so we chose the Nut Roast and my husband went for the sparkling wine fish n chips. It has been many years since I had a nut roast and it was delicious. It was served with a variety of veggies, roast potatoes and red wine gravy. We had a glass of Argentinian Malbec which was really nice too and went very well with the nut roast. They have a huge, I believe 140 types of wine to choose from. My husband said the chunky chips and fish was delicious too. So we were all very happy customers and the young lady who served us even spoke to us in French (my husband is French). I would happily return for the "Sunday Roast" when I feel like having a hot meal. It was great to have a veggie choice for a hot meal. Congratulations to the chef, we'll be back!

Let me start by telling you CRU is an absolute gem. Tiny but well thought out premises, provide a great setting for a lush glass (or two) of wine. The only problem i foresee is people latching on and calling it trendy, and very soon the hipsters will be rushing from the loft or ECC to get a slice of the hottest new place to be seen, there isn't space to stand and drink so get there early to secure some seats or you may be disappointed.
The White Rioja was lovely and i will definitely be trying to book a spot for dinner soon.

Just brilliant! We have lived in the area for 13 years and this is one of the best local places we have ever visited. Great food and service,an amazing wine list and a superb ambience. A real asset to Eastbourne!

Firstly the ambience and decor: imaginative (especially the raised tables by the wall) use of a smallish space that doesn't feel like it. It's chic and will appeal to professionals, discerning groups of women and couples looking for something a bit different.
