I booked the Afton Hotel for my 60th party (1960's themed) and am delighted that I chose to have it there. It is ideally situated opposite the Pier so very easy for people to find.
I found all the staff very helpful, especially Jason and Fiona, who helped with the planning stage and recommended an excellent DJ.
Nothing was too much trouble.
The buffet was delicious and many of my guests stayed the night and all were extremely complimentary about the venue, the atmosphere, the food and staff. The rooms which were clean and very comfortable.
The breakfast was excellent - quick service with a very good choice of cooked dishes.
I can't recommend the Afton Hotel highly enough and will certainly be back again for future celebrations!

Clean enough small bedrooms, public areas in better condition.

A very traditional style hotel that will never be the boutique style so don't expect that. Come with an open mind, it's ok, nothing special but not too bad either.

The waitresses worked hard but could do with swatting up on the menu as apparently a vegetable goulash is "vegetables and goulash".

Entertainment was included in the package booked, it was a little ropy and embarrassing at times, and was geared to a much older audience. However when you are in a group you can still have a good time and enjoy yourself. The £1 bar was a hit with many.

Didn't have a bad time, but if I am in Eastbourne again I may try to find a change of venue to see what the competition is like,

Oh, and by the way, it was on the top of my tongue on the second night to ask what was in the nut roast....

I have been using the Afton Hotel for a number of years for weekends with my partner and groups of friends and due to the quality of service and the friendliness of the staff we decided to hold our wedding reception there. Once again they did not disappoint. They pulled out all the stops, we couldn't have wished for a better day, everything was perfect, the food, the service and the ambience created were excellent. ALL our guests said that the hotel had done us proud and i have to agree. But it doesn't have to be a special occasion to receive this kind of treatment - this is just way they are - I can't recommend this place enough.

For a quality budget hotel, you couldn't fault the standard. The food was of a high standard, extremely hot, the services was very fast and professional. Near all the shops. I would defiantly come here again. Even the beer prices were the same in the pubs. Mrs french cardiff

Travelled with Edwards Coaches on a four day break as the five day trip was fully booked.
Room very clean and tidy and bed comfortable but wish I'd asked for a sea view. Shower worked well and plenty of hot water.
The hotel is in a great spot on the seafront and near to the shopping centre. I loved being able to cross the road and walk round the pier in the morning.
Food tasty and nice and hot, I had the veggie options and was pleased I didn't have to wait extra time for my meal. The waiting staff were very efficient and our waitress was very pleasant and helpful. My only negative with the food is that we could have eaten a bit more but maybe we are greedy! May I suggest that veggie sausages with breakfast would be great.
Overall we enjoyed our stay. The hotel seems very well run and I would use it again.

The Afton Hotel is a great venue for a special occasion. Big thank you to Fiona and Jason who were fantastic in the run up to and on the night of our family's Golden Wedding Anniversary celebrations. We were all made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble - thank you.

I have been using the Afton Hotel for a number of years for a group booking and decided as the service and staff etc are always so good that I was going to hold my wedding reception there.
Well what can I say!!! they did not let me down. The Food was excellent, the service was excellent, there is not one thing I can fault and my guests said that the hotel had done us proud.

If I had to do it all again it would be there without a doubt.

Food, service, room, welcome - all first class. We had tried to book 5 days with Edwards but were unlucky. Not bingo fans but understand some people enjoy it, although it's a shame the players couldn't all sit together around the dance floor and not spread themselves out in the bar area and then 'shush' anyone who tried to talk. This is not a criticism of the hotel per se but still annoying.
The service was excellent, friendly, fast and efficient, and the food was good. Our room was comfortable and clean, as was the en suite shower/bathroom. All in all, a very enjoyable winter break.
This was our first Edwards Coach Trip and would definitely recommend them and the Afton Hotel. Thanks Jason and your team!

The age of the building does show through in places but this is the only downside. The central areas have all been refurbished and the rooms are clean and well serviced. The staff are excellent and their experience and efficiency is that of a much more highly rated hotel.

Every November we come to the Afton for a line dance weekend. But this time it was for our best friends wedding. The reception was held here and it was magical. The staff where all attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are all of the quality and comfortable standard and I have stayed in various ones over the years. For the wedding the food was excellent. I would not hesitate to recommend anyone for this lovely seaside hotel for any occasion, be it a wedding or just a weekend away. Central to the town or the beach with the pier a hop skip and a jump away. Fantastic. Thank you everyone who made the occasion perfect.

The Afton certainly pulled out all the stops to make our friends wedding a wonderful experience for everyone.
Nothing is ever too much trouble-from getting into rooms early to warming up baby formula. Jason and his staff were amazing.

Very enjoyable 5 days at the Afton Hotel as part of an Edward's coach trip. Good accommodation, good food, friendly staff. Entertainment? Well, you can't please everyone. There was a £1-a-drink bar at night. Sadly, the best beer wasn't included - neither was the "Baileys". Thanks to all involved for the break. Would definitely stay there again. david & kath.

This is our 3rd visit to the Afton Hotel, and we had a good welcome from Jason and staff. We had a pleasant and comfortable room with a sea view, and the food is good, The Afton is in a good position with the pier opposite which you can now walk along. Eastbourne centre is close and the way is flat which is important to me Thank you to everyone

Just has a 4 night stay here and as in November 2013 when we last visited it is still the best. The hotel is well positioned for the pier, town and public transport. It is spotlessly clean in the public areas and the rooms. The staff are warm and friendly and very helpful. Lovely room with a very spacious bathroom. Beds were very comfy. We only ate on the first night ( as we chose to eat out for the experience) but this meal was hot and served by very experienced staff. Would recommend to all.

Just arrived home from a 4 night stay at the Afton hotel. I was part of the Edwards party from south wales. Had a lovely stay, the staff were all very friendly and efficient. I did have too complain about my mattress as it was very worn and I could feel the springs, But the manager straight away got me another single duvet too lay on which did the job.Nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff day or night. My room was spotless !! and cleaned every day.The hotel was very clean throughout. Just 1 tiny thing needs too be added and that's a shelf in the shower which again was spotless. The food was very basic and not much choice but was served quickly and always with a smile and for the money it was very good value. All in all a fab stay!

Stayed at this hotel with a coach trip was not expecting much but was pleasantly supprised, lovely clean hotel the beds were one of the most comfortable I've slept in the food was plenty and always hot, all the staff was pleasant and helpfull especially the night bar staff. Wonderfull position right by the pier had room on the front and had no problem with noise from the pier as some people have complained about on here yes you heard people outside but you can expect that as it has the old sach windows and not double glazing but that is part of the charm of this old building. Eastbourne has a lovely shopping center and is about 2mins walk from the hotel.the hotel also had nightly entertainment which was excellent

We stayed in the Afton Hotel as we were attending a function there, and it turned out to be a wise decision. It’s a traditional seaside hotel in a good way. A tiny but efficient reception area provided a warm welcome and we made our way up to our room on the third floor. This turned out to be a large room, with a large bed and tastefully furnished with very ivory-coloured dressing tables (2) and a wardrobe with a full-length mirror. The bathroom was small, but all you need for an overnight stay is a loo, wash-basin and shower in any case. Although the room overlooked the rear, there was a dinky little balcony which might be nice for a summer stay. The star turn, however, was the bed. I have never had such a good night’s sleep in a hotel in this or any other country. An excellent full English breakfast served by cheerful, helpful staff was provided in the morning and this was included in the cost. The hotel is excellently positioned right opposite the Pier, and I can imagine that in summer it is very popular and busy.

My husband myself and 2 friends have just returned from a Edwards Coach 5 day break staying at the Afton hotel. Hotel was lovely and clean, our room was spotless and had balcony shame it wasn't summer. Staff very pleasant ,Breakfast and Dinner really nice and a choice of meat fish or veggie main. My friend is very picky with her food but there was alway's something she could eat. There was 2 coaches and we give credit to the chef,s everything was well cooked and hot we enjoyed entertainment especially the Wednesday comedian.
We will definitely return.

My wife and I were on a coach trip organised by Edwards Coaches South Wales along with 16 friends.
We arrived on Monday 19th Jan and left on Friday 23rd.
Good welcome from Jadon who explained the porterage arrangements.
The room was comfortable and whilst we thought at first, quite small,
This turned out not to be the case when a chair was removed.
Most importantly the room was very CLEAN and remained so for the rest of our stay.
Staff very polite and willing to assist.
Jason was always there to provide information and with the exception of the comedian on the Wednesday night the entertainment was great.
Would I visit again?
The answer a resounding yes.
Breakfast was brill and the evening meal offered a veggie option which we appreciated.
