May bank holiday weekend:

Greeted by staff who carried our cases to our room, room ready by 13:30pm. Hotel right opposite the pier, 5 mins from the shops - excellent location!

Breakfast was a little early 08:00-09:00, could be half hour later, especially after a late night ( this is my only criticism). Restaurant staff so accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was freshly cooked, for me the best meal of the day.

Overall the staff were very friendly.

Hotel itself, old with lots of character. Loved little hide out rooms to relax. Lots of seating available.

Even with difficult customers, staff were polite and handled situations well.

I would stay again.

just came back today from the hotel, well all I can say is this hotel is fantastic, we have been going here for many years now and it just seems to get better each time. Jason the manager cannot do enough for you he makes you feel at home straight away and his stuff are all so helpful to. the hotel is in a great location opposite the pier and near all shops and amenities. our room we had was lovely we had a sea view room, as normal very clean and bright, the hotel food and bar is great, we are now looking for the next booking to go back cannot wait.

I ventured into this hotel as I needed a bed for three nights and the owner/receptionist did me some discount and booked me in for 3 nights with no quibble at all and gave me a key straightaway. The hotel can cater for solo folk of groups of people and has large entertainment areas on both the group and basement floors and a decent sized bar area. It is located on the seafront, so handily placed for all that the town has to offer. The staff were polite, the hotel well decorated and the breakfast was a decent size.

We travelled as a large group of friends (21 of us) being members of an Essex based social club. It was a mystery trip by bus so only 2 people knew where we were going ! We arrived at the Afton Hotel late on Saturday afternoon and were welcomed by the receptionist Fiona who had all the rooms allocated. The rooms are comfortable and clean , what you see on the photographs on websites is what you get and there was no case here of showing you a lovely picture to disappoint you on arrival. Breakfast was very well received by our group and the 11 who ate in on Sunday evening were well satisfied with their meal. We all finished up in the hotel being entertained wonderfully by their Magician/singer who rounded off our weekend really well. The staff were all pleasant and helpful and one can see why the Afton is so popular amongst visiting guests. Finally I must say as organiser of our trip how pleasant it was to do business with this hotel (thank you Jason) , always helpful and accommodating making changes as we went along , we had a few choices of hotel via the Eastbourne Tourist information and we definitely made the right one.

I booked the Afton Hotel for my 60th party (1960's themed) and am delighted that I chose to have it there. It is ideally situated opposite the Pier so very easy for people to find.
I found all the staff very helpful, especially Jason and Fiona, who helped with the planning stage and recommended an excellent DJ.
Nothing was too much trouble.
The buffet was delicious and many of my guests stayed the night and all were extremely complimentary about the venue, the atmosphere, the food and staff. The rooms which were clean and very comfortable.
The breakfast was excellent - quick service with a very good choice of cooked dishes.
I can't recommend the Afton Hotel highly enough and will certainly be back again for future celebrations!

Clean enough small bedrooms, public areas in better condition.

A very traditional style hotel that will never be the boutique style so don't expect that. Come with an open mind, it's ok, nothing special but not too bad either.

The waitresses worked hard but could do with swatting up on the menu as apparently a vegetable goulash is "vegetables and goulash".

Entertainment was included in the package booked, it was a little ropy and embarrassing at times, and was geared to a much older audience. However when you are in a group you can still have a good time and enjoy yourself. The £1 bar was a hit with many.

Didn't have a bad time, but if I am in Eastbourne again I may try to find a change of venue to see what the competition is like,

Oh, and by the way, it was on the top of my tongue on the second night to ask what was in the nut roast....

I have been using the Afton Hotel for a number of years for weekends with my partner and groups of friends and due to the quality of service and the friendliness of the staff we decided to hold our wedding reception there. Once again they did not disappoint. They pulled out all the stops, we couldn't have wished for a better day, everything was perfect, the food, the service and the ambience created were excellent. ALL our guests said that the hotel had done us proud and i have to agree. But it doesn't have to be a special occasion to receive this kind of treatment - this is just way they are - I can't recommend this place enough.

For a quality budget hotel, you couldn't fault the standard. The food was of a high standard, extremely hot, the services was very fast and professional. Near all the shops. I would defiantly come here again. Even the beer prices were the same in the pubs. Mrs french cardiff

Travelled with Edwards Coaches on a four day break as the five day trip was fully booked.
Room very clean and tidy and bed comfortable but wish I'd asked for a sea view. Shower worked well and plenty of hot water.
The hotel is in a great spot on the seafront and near to the shopping centre. I loved being able to cross the road and walk round the pier in the morning.
Food tasty and nice and hot, I had the veggie options and was pleased I didn't have to wait extra time for my meal. The waiting staff were very efficient and our waitress was very pleasant and helpful. My only negative with the food is that we could have eaten a bit more but maybe we are greedy! May I suggest that veggie sausages with breakfast would be great.
Overall we enjoyed our stay. The hotel seems very well run and I would use it again.

Food, service, room, welcome - all first class. We had tried to book 5 days with Edwards but were unlucky. Not bingo fans but understand some people enjoy it, although it's a shame the players couldn't all sit together around the dance floor and not spread themselves out in the bar area and then 'shush' anyone who tried to talk. This is not a criticism of the hotel per se but still annoying.
The service was excellent, friendly, fast and efficient, and the food was good. Our room was comfortable and clean, as was the en suite shower/bathroom. All in all, a very enjoyable winter break.
This was our first Edwards Coach Trip and would definitely recommend them and the Afton Hotel. Thanks Jason and your team!

The age of the building does show through in places but this is the only downside. The central areas have all been refurbished and the rooms are clean and well serviced. The staff are excellent and their experience and efficiency is that of a much more highly rated hotel.

Every November we come to the Afton for a line dance weekend. But this time it was for our best friends wedding. The reception was held here and it was magical. The staff where all attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are all of the quality and comfortable standard and I have stayed in various ones over the years. For the wedding the food was excellent. I would not hesitate to recommend anyone for this lovely seaside hotel for any occasion, be it a wedding or just a weekend away. Central to the town or the beach with the pier a hop skip and a jump away. Fantastic. Thank you everyone who made the occasion perfect.

The Afton certainly pulled out all the stops to make our friends wedding a wonderful experience for everyone.
Nothing is ever too much trouble-from getting into rooms early to warming up baby formula. Jason and his staff were amazing.

Very enjoyable 5 days at the Afton Hotel as part of an Edward's coach trip. Good accommodation, good food, friendly staff. Entertainment? Well, you can't please everyone. There was a £1-a-drink bar at night. Sadly, the best beer wasn't included - neither was the "Baileys". Thanks to all involved for the break. Would definitely stay there again. david & kath.

This is our 3rd visit to the Afton Hotel, and we had a good welcome from Jason and staff. We had a pleasant and comfortable room with a sea view, and the food is good, The Afton is in a good position with the pier opposite which you can now walk along. Eastbourne centre is close and the way is flat which is important to me Thank you to everyone
