This review is super overdue! I have been a customer of the Afton Hotel for several years now. Jason and his team offer exceptional customer service. The venue is charming and spacious and just great for hosting business events. You can be sure that Jason and his team will look after you and your guests. A huge thanks to Jason and his team for looking after me over the years - good job guys!

Thank you very much for your kind response. We are delighted you find us very welcoming and look forward to your return. I will pass on your kind comments to the rest of the team.
Me and my partner could not find one fault with this hotel! Brilliant price for the 2 nights. Bedroom was immaculate, so warm and cosy in the evenings. All staff members we spoke to were so lovely and helpful. The breakfast was lovely in the morning. Room was warm enough. I think for the price you pay you can't moan about the noise coming from outside as due to location. Would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family and we can't wait to return!

Walls are paper thin, might as well not have any plus the windows aren't double glazed and you can hear everything out on the main roads. I wouldn't stay here again but only for this reason as I like a bit of peace and quiet and literally hearing people's full conversations and walking in the room next door isn't really appreciated.

All I can say about this hotel is that for myself and my wife it was decidedly average. A room on the 1st floor with a balcony and things would have been much better.
As it was we were on the 3rd floor, which the owner or manager has already stated on Trip Advisor, are smallish rooms with showers with low pressure.
The en suite is very small up there and unless you are a contortionist it might be better to tear off the toilet paper you will need before taking aim.
The room itself was clean though rather sad looking, as was the hotel interior.
Obviously it is an old hotel and it would cost a great deal of money to bring it up to scratch, but you get what you pay for.
The food was adequate and all the waiting staff seemed to be run off their feet and consequently did quite a good job.
The location itself is excellent with the only drawback the noise from the youth coming from the pier which is not the hotels fault.
Be warned also that the seagulls are very loud and very early risers.
If a light sleeper take some ear plugs.
Again not the hotels fault, but a friendly tip.
My overall view as the title says was adequate.

We recently used the Afton Hotel for an event. Fiona, Jason and the team made everyone feel completely welcome. The rooms were all comfortable, with some offering stunning views of the pier and seafront. The food kept us all going, with varying dietary needs catered for.
We will definitely be using the Afton Hotel again for our events.

Even though a night at afton was for 90 quid, it was one of the cheapest hotels with good reviews I found near the beach.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Gave us free water since I didn't have change and we're very flexible with check in and check out timing. Really appreciated that.

However we felt that the room was slightly small for the price we paid but overall it is peak season time and hotel is right next to the beach.

Would recommend afton to other travellers.

We came to the Afton for our friend Lynns 60th Birthday! we stayed one night in a very pleasant and well situated room, that looked right across to the pier. The party venue was just the right size, and bar staff were very pleasant. The breakfast was very nice and consisted of everything you needed after a good night out. For the price this hotel is in a great position, which does cause a problem for parking? but you cant have everything.

Having enjoyed a Turkey and Tinsel break a couple of years ago and enjoyed it very much we decided to have a short mid week break this month.
Had a nice room on 1st floor overlooking the Pier. The room was spacious and comfortable but it takes about 4 minutes for any hot water to come through the shower, it must be a long way to the boiler. Nice table in the bay window to see what is happening on the sea front.
Very convienient for buses into town and along the coast to Hastings and Bexhill.
Food was always hot and cooked quite well but not a great deal of choice. No brown bread or rolls unless you ask for them. Main course of dinner comes swimming in gravy and here again point it out to the staff and it will be fine.
The Ballroom was more than half covered in chairs and tables which made it almost impossible to use for dancing, unlike our previous stay.
Evening entertainment was very average.

My husband and I came to the Afton for Lynne,s 60th birthday party on the 4th July, we didn't stay overnight as there was no rooms left, so stayed just up the road. We travelled down from South Wales and was certainly not disappointed. The party was in a lovely room which was really nice and clean.
The staff were lovely, very friendly. There was a lovely spread of food which there was plenty of. I can't think of anything negative to say and would certainly like to stay there next time we visit. Happy birthday Lynn hope you and Ian have a lovey cruise x

For a relatively inexpensive hotel the accommodation and service was very good. Our room on the first floor was located directly looking towards the pier and sea with an accessible balcony (one of only three available). A reasonable size bedroom with built-in wardrobe and drawers: bathroom rather small only the width of the shower cubicle (no bath) and minimal layout space. However this was sufficient for our 5 days, the room recently decorated and spotlessly clean. Ample white towels and tea/coffee/chocolate making facilities restocked daily. Several lounges and large bar areas with adequate comfortable seating all clean but somewhat dated. The drinks in the bar very reasonable priced for a hotel. Breakfast was buffet for cereals and fruit followed by waiter/waitress service for a full English breakfast. Dinner was three courses with a choice of menu served by staff. Overall the service, food and accommodation was very good.

I held my 60th birthday party at the Afton Hotel on Saturday 4th July. I couldn't fault it at all. I would like to thank Jason and his staff who went out of their way to make my evening special, nothing was too much trouble. The buffet was great and there was enough for everyone. All my guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves and had a brilliant night. I would highly recommend the Afton Hotel for any event.

On the evening of the 12 June 2015 I attend my graduation ball at the Afton.
I was one of the organiser and can not fault the hotel at all.
They were so helpful from the first phone call to enquire about the venue to the point of us stepping out the door at the end.
The hotel staff helped make the night truly memorable.

I would not hesitate to use them for a party in the future.
Thank you!!!

My husband and I, together with two other family members, stayed at the Afton Hotel from 25th to 29th May 2015, with Edwards Coaches. Our double room on the 2nd floor was a decent size, clean & tidy, nicely furnished and overlooked the pier. The bathroom was spacious, with a walk-in shower that was easy to use. My only slight grumble was that we had no TV remote control in the room and although we reported this at reception, we never did get a remote control. This wasn't too much of a problem for us, because we didn't stay in the room much to watch TV but I feel there should have been one available, if only to turn off the subtitles that came up every time you turned on the TV. Also, as our room faced the pier, it was very noisy late some nights with other holiday-makers and revellers leaving the pier [and there was also an incident involving the police one night] but this is to be expected in such a busy resort and in such a prime location. The food at the hotel was really good, well-cooked and decent portions. We certainly didn't go hungry. All the meat served was tender and falling apart, just as we like it and the vegetables were nice and soft without being soggy. The entertainment at the hotel was excellent, particularly on the Monday and the Thursday. However, as we were all different ages with different tastes, its always hard to please everyone but I would say that our coach party joined in to make every night enjoyable. When we arrived, there were other guests staying there on a bar deal but the Manager, Jason, kindly extended that deal to our coach party as well, so the drinks were very reasonable. All in all, I would say that this hotel is good value for money and we certainly had a great time. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. I would certainly recommend this hotel to other people for a down-to-earth & good value hotel.

Lovely friendly Hotel you would want to visit again and again. Always a warm welcome. The rooms are spotless. Small but more than adequate. Our bedding was changed everyday! Entertainment every night so no need to leave the Hotel. Just pull up a seat and enjoy the evening. A really nice breakfast is served, there is something to please everyone. Full English, cereal, toast, yogurt, fruit, tea, coffee and fruit juice. We were full to bursting! All in all a great place to stay. We are going back.

We had a big family birthday party here and the staff were so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much bother in making it go with a swing. For the price, the rooms were good value and I agree the evening meal was a bit rushed, similar to an earlier comment, but the beds were comfortable and I didn't hear any adverse comments from our guests who stayed there.
