Keen athlete and marathon runner John Bishop of Colin Bibra Estate Agents in Ealing was delighted to be one of the lucky 5,000 people, including Princess Beatrice, Fatima Whitbread and Roger Black, who took part in the 5k opening race at the Olympic Park in March as part of the test events ahead of the London 2012 games next month.

Participants, who won the chance to take part in the National Lottery Olympic Run in a ballot of more than 40,000 applicants, were among the first people ever to cross the finishing line of the new athletics stadium.

The five-mile route saw runners begin from the park's Orbit Tower, and pass the Athlete's Village, Basketball Arena and Velodome.

The final 300m leg of the race saw them entering the stadium through the athletes' entrance, cheered on by 12,000 spectators – mainly family and friends of the runners – who were among the first members of the public allowed into the newly-built arena.

“Coming up into the stadium and running on the track was a magical experience” said John.

After his Olympic stadium experience John is keen for his staff team to get involved when Ealing welcomes the Olympic torch relay on Tuesday 24th July – he’s given them the afternoon off to join the crowds lining the route.
