Why it's so important to Buy Local.

How many times have you read about a business that's been around a long time but has had to close. The reason often is that it hasn't had the support of local people. The very same people who are sad to see the "much loved" but sadly neglected shop close its doors for good.

If you want to see a future for our shopping areas then you have to buy local. Otherwise what's the point in business owners putting their homes on the line, working long hours and dealing with the ups and downs of commerce. It just isn't worth the risk.

The big stores can, but not always, weather the storm better than independent shops with a branch or two. It is the independent shops that give an area its character and they're worth supporting. In most high streets you have the usual suspects that you find everywhere there's nothing different.

Chelmsford has a mix and it's a mix worth saving. Yes it's great to have the big names but it's also great to be able to buy the one offs. The items you just can't get anywhere.

Our Buy Local campaign has resulted in over 400 stickers being displayed in Chelmsford and the surrounding areas. It's our way of reminding locals that local business needs local support.
