Hotel molto ben curato, pulito con ampi spazi, bello anche il centro benessere. Abbiamo mangiato anche bene, da tornare.

Plenty of car parking. Great food and no trouble being served at the bar. Great xmas feel. Good Dj. Dance floor a bit small but overall great time. Plenty of seating to go in the chill area and a whiskey xx

We enjoyed our overnight stay here while attending a Christmas do in Bolton. The staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We needed to be close to the lift and the receptionist went out of her way to sort this out for us, explaining that she wouldn't put us in a ground floor room as a party would make it very noisy. Bed was very comfortable. OK, the rooms are "tired", but the whole place is spotlessly clean. Breakfast lovely and no queuing! I would wholeheartedly recommend!

We needed a place to stay overnight, plain and simple. We wanted a comfortable, quiet room and had it. Although we are Platinum Accor members, we were not upgraded, but were given an extra drink in the bar. A huge convention of blind people learning to use their guide dogs was there at the same time which made it a fascinating time to be there. We had a bar dinner as no restaurant service was available. All was fine, but nothing special.

From the moment we walked in the door we were waiting.. there was a serious shortage of staff (helpful or otherwise) and the receptionist wasn't overly welcoming. Room was clean enough and the bed very comfy but the bathroom, as with most of the Mercure hotel groups chain, was tired and in need of a refit. The bath panel was a piece of plywood and the seal around the bath looked like it had been done by a monkey. I waited to get home to shower. Ordered room service and was told I had to pay cash when it arrived...luckily I had some!! £21 for a couple of sandwiches seemed a bit excessive but what are you going to do...there was no Piccalilli on the "Ham and Piccalilli" sandwich though!!!! Problems with the computers meant we had to pay for drinks at the bar rather than on our room tab as well...most unusual..The evening dinner was pretty unspectacular. It was a presentation dinner so very much "conference food"...I couldn't eat my main course as it was a bit too bland. The bar staff were a mix of "out of their depth and overworked" but one lad was very helpful over a mix up with one of my guests dinners...he disappeared to the kitchen and the meal duly arrived...top marks to him. The receptionist couldn't even be bothered to wish us farewell when we said goodbye, she'd obviously had a long night.

The staff at the Mercure are incredibly accommodating. Friendly and welcoming.

It's impeccably clean and service is great. The room s are a little small but lovely warm and welcoming.

Breakfast is amazing everything you could wish for and eggs cooked to order.

I haven't been in the swimming pool but looks incredibly inviting. It's not busy.

Fun, gracious and vibrant.

a group of 14 friends needed an xmas night out and came across this deal which we thought was a good offer. 20pound for 3 courses, disco and some party accessories!
arrived on the earlier side and was asked to wait in the bar area to be called. nice clean setting, and got a drink. raspberry cidre...£5 a bottle not to bad i thought,.but other friends ordered different drinks on the expensive side.
was asked to head on down to the room, again great setting, nice Dec's and freebies (hats, crackers, whistles, etc).
our party had been split onto 2 tables but there was no worry when we asked to push them together. all happy.
waitressing staff friendly and smiley, DJ welcoming and up for a laugh. food was lovely and served prompt, not to much waiting time in between courses.
was actually a good night for us the only complaint from myself and many others of my party was the male barman....arrogant, ignorant, no banter (which for an xmas party you would expect a little)...morbid face, in all honesty a very arsey young man who thought he was above his station!!
part from him the night was enjoyable and was worth the money. shame the barman needed to get a life and SMILE

I love this hotel and when I come back to my hometown I ALWAYS stay here ! And never receive discount from Eric who's been the head honcho for years ! (At least 10 times I've stayed ere)! Eric ! If you read my other reviews I'm a compulsive nit picker but I can't grumble here because the pro's far outweigh the cons ! I arrived on Thursday left Sunday the only whinge was the shower it trickled like an old fella with a prostate problem apart from that great ! I stayed in 878, Sorry to see Isabel go who always on every visit made me want to come back again, well done everyone and the chefs especially great food in a great atmosphere, Marina is a credit to this hotel who works part time in the bar so friendly ! Can't wait to return !

We arrived expecting a booked double room and thought a mistake had been made as when we opened the room door we discovered we had been given a suite of rooms!! A really wonderful surprise! The staff at this hotel are all good and nothing seemed too much trouble. Had a lovely meal the first night at the hotel and the choice for breakfast on both mornings were varied and plentiful and again the staff in the breakfast room were excellent.

I stayed here for one night for a business stay, the room was clean and reasonably spacious. Comfortable bed, and a great size.
The bathroom however was dismal, the shower was barely a trickle and the temperate was almost impossible to set, my colleague had the same problem in a different room - I don't know if this is a hotel wide problem. Breakfast was fine. Would stay here again but would request a room with a decent shower! Fine for a business stay.

Good price for the stay. Staff very friendly and a nice relaxing stay. Pool good. Location was good for us as we were visiting family nearby. Rooms a bit tired but not too bad. Would definitely stay here again

It is an annual visit for a conference. This hotel is such a good venue for the conference. It's convenience to M61 is a reason but main one is the staff of the hotel. People make the place. Of course you want cleanliness, a decent room and good food. All these are part of the hotel. The reception staff are welcoming, restaurant well run and the conference very efficient. I must mention Isobel in the restaurant for her warm welcome each time you see her. She is the queen of this hotel as are the young waiting staff. Another to commend isvthevbarman Michael. He is able to chat and serve with a twinkle in his eye. You will go far young man

Nice hotel this. We had a quiet room 2 floors up in a quiet area[not asked for]
Drinks at the Bar quite expensive but it did not matter much as we were dining out most nights.
There were 2 weddings in on the Saturday night and the bar was quite noisy.
I wish people would not hang around the Bar after being served.
Went to bed at 12.30. Never heard a thing or noise from the wedding.
Good views outside. We were told there was a chance of seeing the Northern Lights, but never saw a thing except clouds.

A really good hotel with nice spacious room, great breakfasts and a good location. Has a good swimming pool and a very nice sauna and hot tub.

However our stay was interrupted by the staggeringly hot temperatures in our room. When we arrived in our room the difference in heat was obvious, feeling like we had just stepped into an oven. We went to room of the family we were travelling with, a couple of doors down, and they too were being slowly baked in the heat. although I'm sure this was just a one off, it did make the experience rather unpleasant, especially when trying to nod off.

A comfortable hotel on the outskirts of Bolton. The room was clean, quiet and functional and the bed gave a comfortable night's sleep. The restaurant was well above average with tasty food at reasonable prices and a good selection on the wine list. The staff were reasonably efficient and pleasant all leading to a good one night stay. I would return especially as it is rather difficult finding reasonable hotels in Bolton.

Stayed here whilst attending a silver wedding function.
Very friendly and professional staff. Lovely room 780 and very good value. Clean and spacious.
The function meal, which had to be pre ordered was ok. To be fair there were 2 other wedding functions going on as well so would assume that the kitchen was under pressure. Starter for me was soup which was only just warm. My mains was the pork. Very thin slices. The veg was a little al dente for me as were the potatoes. Sweet was profiteroles which were Devine.
Would we stay there again, yes we would.

We stayed in a suite (a lovely upgrade). The room was spacious with a four poster bed which was very comfortable. It was clean apart from one of the cups had a coffee/tea stain on the outside top!!! I wasn't impressed with that. How do they clean them????
The breakfast was ok but would be better if the fried eggs were not swimming on a plate full of oil.
The drinks at the bar were expensive, so no next day hangover.
The staff were pleasant.
I would stay here again if it was a good offer as we had this time.

I have just returned from my annual business trip to Bolton that involves a stay at this hotel each year. My review last year mentioned the planned refurbishment. I was disappointed this year to find the refurbishment seemed to consist of some new shower tiles but noticed little else different. the bathroom still consisted of a weak shower, cheap looking plastic fittings and overall very 80s feel. The hotel carpet throughout the hallway seemed very thin and worn. Not quite the improvement I anticipated. Finally the room was stifling warm with the only way of controlling temperature was by leaving the window open, I thought this may have been addressed..
I have read other reviews and I can understand the completely differing opinions this place draws from people. I believe the negative reviews are down to Mercure and the way the hotel is positioned commercially within the marketing and pricing of onsite services. To Quote the website "Modern comforts in a Georgian setting overlooking the West Pennine Moors" (Modern must refer to the fact it has wifi and a television in each room?)

This type of description can distract people from the 3 star reality! If it was honest it would read:

Friendly 3 star hotel, Clearly seen better days but offers free Wifi and swimming pool, with 80s themed clean comfortable rooms.

If like me you know what to expect then your expectations are managed and one feels less disappointment. For me this is an average standard 3 star hotel that is functional for the business purposes I require. The hotel has nice staff who make an effort to be friendly. The interaction between the staff and some guests for me makes this feel more like a large B&B family run guest house than a hotel.
For the last two years there has been a coach party during my stay and this has left me with the impression that they use this type of trade to fill up the occupancy and keep the hotel running. This is the first time I have stayed on a Saturday night in addition to the Sunday, and the bar was so quiet on the Saturday night that the bar staff did not stay behind the bar, the barman went to the office and told me to give him a shout if I wanted anything. I can understand this makes best use of staff time but this for me further enforced the feel of an empty B&B. I expected a bit more of a busy atmosphere on a Saturday night.
The reason why I have personally returned each year is the room price has been reasonable (Still is) and compares with a Premier Inn of similar standard if a little more dated. The beds are ultra comfortable and the room has always been clean. The free wifi is good enough for work purposes and this is an important aspect for me. As mentioned the staff are friendly.
The rooms are dated and do feel very 80s/ early 90s which is possibly when this hotel was enjoying its better days. The location is right on the motorway network and again for business or people looking to use the hotel as a base, is perfect.

Having said all this, next year I will probably look at the local Premier Inn for the simple reason that this 3 star hotel that is positioned in what is not a particularly affluent area where hotels are hardly in high demand, (based upon the place always feeling empty) insists on charging food and Drinks at prices comparable to a 4/5 star hotel in a bustling city centre.(I.E The Crowne Plaza in Liverpool charges the same price for Burger and Chips (£14.75) but is on a different level to this altogether!)
Also although the breakfast is nice, it is not an £11 breakfast, especially in this part of the world.
I feel sorry for the management of the hotel as I saw from a similar comment the manager confirmed prices are set centrally by Mercure. Anyone local probably knows all too well the food and beverages are overpriced.
There is nothing else in walking distance so if you do not wish to drive out or grab a taxi, one is left paying these unjustified prices. Now I am aware that there is at least one other hotel near by with more realistic prices for food and drink on the doorstep, this I will consider as an alternative.

We paid £65 for a family room as part of a wedding booking so very happy there. Breakfast was good plenty on offer.
Room was very warm air con required really and bed was not very comfy.
The rooms do need a little tlc especially in the bathroom. Grime and dirt in between the shower tiles is just not acceptable in my opinion. The booking confirmations are also a little confusing as mine appeared to say I had paid for the room upfront but it turns out I hadn't. I wasn't the only person checking in to be confused by this. Drinks at the bar expensive!

Overall please but would probably look at the premier inn not far away next time.

Stayed here on a Saturday night with my boyfriend. Arrived about 3pm, checked in promptly and the room was ready. The staff were all really attentive and professional. The room was tidy and clean, and really spacious. We had booked in for dinner in the evening and the food was well presented and delicious, as was the breakfast the following morning.

The only negatives were the bed wasn't very comfortable and the shower was dire. It was just a trickle, like there was absolutely no pressure in it.

We got a good deal, and I would stay here again if it came up again.

Good stop over but not near shops etc.
We stopped off at this hotel for a one night’s stay en route to Scotland. I would have been delighted to have stayed longer. We had a king size bed with a comfortable mattress and pillows, and a flat screen tv with numerous channels. The room hag a kettle with a nice variety of tea, coffee etc. There was an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe. We could also control the air con and heating ourselves. Shampoo, body lotion etc were provided in the clean modern bathroom which contained a bath and shower. The hotel also had a gymnasium, 15 metre heated pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. My choice of evening meal was very good, egg mayonnaise, a delicious fish pie followed by a home made crumble. Graham chose different food to me and said that his was equally as nice so two happy bunnies.

Its not your high end Mercure. No air con which normally would not be a problem in Bolton...unless its the summer. The restaurant was also very warm but the windows dont open??. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It needs an update but then again so do I.

A little late doing this review sorry. My sister had her wedding at the hotel early July & I want to say a big thank you to all the staff for making everyone feel so welcome and help the day go off without a hitch. Too many people to mention but a special thanks to Rob, Jack, Sue, Lydia, Isabelle, Vesi, Claire, all the bar/breakfast staff & the chef's who put on a massive pre wedding buffet on the Friday night, a lovely wedding meal & evening buffet. The wedding party had adjoining rooms which made it easy on the wedding morning with everything we needed & any extras were accommodated without a second thought, event rooms ready for us to set up on the day, room service breakfasts for the mother of the bride & lovely decoration of the bridal suite. There was nothing more that we could have asked for, again a massive thank you!
