A weekend of rest and relaxation brought us to this lovely modern hotel. We checked in at 11 am and were met by a very polite gentleman who explained the facilities in the hotel, answered any questions and gave us local information on places to eat or visit.

We went up 1 flight of steps from the modern airy reception to our executive double, with a massive double bed sitting area and bathroom with a large selection of toiletries

We had a bath and a shower and all the usual aspects a traveller wants.
Free wifi in the room was quick and never failed to load any pages.

There is a leisure club on site but we did not find time to indulge in this experience.

Breakfast was included in our rate, and this again was high quality and plentiful .

We will return and when we are in the area this will be our choice to stay- well done to all the staff for looking after us.

Have stayed here a number of times and given it a good review
First time since change of ownership and was really disappointed with the ROOM
Shower pressure appalling, Beds need new mattresses as they feel they have a board in them
Toilets seat had been replaced and didn't fit
What a shame rest of Hotel and facilities seem the same good standard

For just a room Seems expensive and Premier appears better

Stayed here overnight and was ideal for our needs. Room was a good size, unfortunately bed wasn't! Can't believe hotels still have small double beds! Apart from that there was coffee/tea facilties (no biscuits), basic toiletries, tv and hairdryer.
Hotel is ideally situated for the M61. Gym well equipped and pool looks lovely, didn't have time to try them out.
Breakfast delicious and they made the effort to restock as needed.
Have stayed here before and would be happy to again.

This hotel has fantastic facilities. The health centre and pool are excellent. The food is outstanding and the staff are really helpful. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Would recommend for business, families, friends, couples and solo alike.

The hotel is modern and has leisure facilities which was the main reason I chose the Georgian Mercure for a 1 night business trip to Bolton. My room was situated in the main building at the front, on floor 1. The decor is slightly dated with old fashioned, ill fitting wardrobes and drawers - see picture. The bed was very uncomfortable and you could easily feel the springs through the sheets. In conjunction with a dripping shower head (it wasn't possible to stop this), I didn't get a great nights sleep. The very low water pressure of the shower rendered it almost useless....not a great start to the day!!

The leisure facilities (pool area) were OK but had a number of faults. The pool isn't very big, the jacuzzi doesn't function as it should (i.e. the water jets are ineffective / don't work - a member sat next to me said "it's been like this for years, the hotel have done nothing to fix it"), the steam room didn't work (it's just a warm room with no steam!).

In common with most hotels food & drinks prices are set on the high side, which is to be expected. The food I ordered was generally of good quality, with a couple of let downs. The "jalapeño mushy peas" (served with the haddock & chips) turned out to be no more than standard garden peas and the chips were luke warm due to the silly pretentious wire basket they were suspended in! (If you suspend chips off the plate they are bound to go cold quickly!!).

On balance I wouldn't choose this hotel again if I stayed in Bolton. If you want leisure facilities choose the De Vere White (Football stadium). If you want a modern comfortable room and are not interested in leisure facilities, go for a Premier Inn.

We stayed in a family room, very spacious, double bed, single bed and a cot. We could see Reebok Stadium from our room and also Pennines. The pool and jacuzzi was very nice. We had breakfast at the hotel which was well worth the price, plenty to choose from. lots of free parking at rear of hotel. Bar prices were a little expensive. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed in a family room 29th, 30th December and 1st, 2nd January 2013.
Fantastic hotel, down to earth helpful staff especially Karl and Kristian who are a credit to this hotel.
Credit also due to the chefs we ate in the bar area on the return leg of our journey and on both occasions the food was faultless as was the breakfasts.
Great place to stay if you have a family as the pool area passes time with the kids.
Plenty of parking, overall great value for money and we will definitely be staying here again.

Message to Eric the manager turn the heating down and save yourself a few quid, you run a fantastic hotel and pass on our thanks to your staff.

This was our 3rd new years eve at this hotel, this year there was 6 of us,over the years we have tryed different venues but this hotel fits the bill in every way ,staff were good, rooms are ideal food was excellant again ,alright the service can be a bit slow at times but its a very busy night for them. Every year when we make our minds up where to go it seems we all think the same back to the mercure for new years eve

We booked the Georgian House or a short break before New Year. The hotel is immaculate and cosy, our bedroom was situated in the new annexe at the back on the ground floor and consisted of a very very large double and to singles, the bathroom was also large and the complimentary toiletries topped it off. On arrival Melissa the receptionist booked us in, very polite and courteous and a credit to he hotel likewise the housekeeping lady, the breakfast Staff and leisure centre.

After checking in we dropped our bags and ventured to the very airy sports bar where we had. Spot of lunch, the sandwiches were yummy and reasonably priced. We then ventured to pool area, there is a jacuzzi which was unfortunately out of order but the steam room and sauna more Than made up for it. The changing rooms are large and there are showers for your after swim. We didn't use the gym but looked just as inviting. After a good nights sleep we ventured or breakfast, there were there usual cereals, juices, a fruit station and cooked breakfast, eggs benedict, porridge, kippers and other choices to order. The hotel also provided tea, coffee and my favourite marmite.

Overall we had a Lovely time and the staff are a credit to the Mercure brand. Keep up the good work,

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. the hotel was clean, comfortable and warm. The staff in general were very good, polite, friendly and efficient
The food was adequate, though nothing special.
However, the service in the restaurant was very slow, more down to management, I would think.
Generally, it would seem that the management needs to be reviewed in most departments, the restaurant, bar and entertainment especially.
Having said all this, we would stay at the hotel again if we were in the area.
We would prefer to call this review- Constructive Criticism - rather than Complaint.

Just returned from 5 days at this hotel (Mercure Bolton), the hotel was immaculate throughout, the rooms excellent and the food choices were superb.
The staff, beginning with Paul the Manager, were attentive and helpful and most importantly cheerful in all aspects of their duties, other special mentions to Joanne, Angela and Carl.
The only hiccup was a let down on the entertainment front, the artist booked for Xmas Eve failed to appear, and the wonderful entertainer on Boxing day finished at 2200, just when we were warming up !!
I would have no hesitation in returning again, and certainly for another Christmas Break, the whole deal organised through Glenton Palmer Coach trips was first class. Great !!!

Outside Bolton but very Close to the Reebok Stadium and in a quiet location (Blackrod), the hotel is impressive from the roadside and equally as impressive on the inside.

The bar area is a-la mode, open but warm. Service is good; staff are friendly and efficient.

The rooms are well appointed - mine had beds for 4 and a cavernous bathroom. A big plus was the in-room entertainment ... they have radio, and best of all Radio's 3 and 4. Having stayed in many hotels that don't have any or good radio reception this was a boon!

Can't comment on food - I ate out of the hotel and left before breakfast. However, when I left the night portering staff provided me with fruit and yoghurts. Brilliant!

Although the reason I've just spent a week in the Mecure Bolton Georgian House Hotel is not ideal - my boiler packed in at home and I nearly got poisened by carbon monoxide!

My stay was the most pleasurable I have had in any hotel in the world the staff were amazing and the room was very spacious.

My children enjoyed the use of the fantastic swimming pool and the chips they serve in their restaurant are the best I've ever tasted!

At £54.00 per night it was also great value for money...

I stayed at this hotel for two nights on business, 27 to 29 November 2012. I needed to work in the hotel and asked prior to booking whether there was wireless Internet access to be told there was. It was only available in the lobby and was very poor and very slow, so much so that it was useless. As for using an Ethernet cable in my bedroom, I was unable to get past security, probably was more to do with my computer than the hotel, nevertheless I could not work properly. In fairness one of the managerial staff did try to help in that regard to no avail.

As for the room it was tired and even though I had the executive package it was a little on the basic side. As for breakfasts, the first morning was a complete shambles, no food coming from the kitchen, no bread for the self toasting machine, tables not cleared etc. it was so bad that many people I saw were hanging round for several minutes waiting to get something and then not getting what they enough. As for me I took what I could get rather than what I would have liked, eg. Scrambled egg or poached egg - not a chance that day.

I had lunch in my room whilst I worked and the panini that I ordered was nice, the salad ordered as a side was not what was described.

The second day was better but there were no serving spoons out for the fresh fruit etc. minor stuff maybe, but irritating. In all, the quality of the food presented when it eventually came was good, it was the service that was poor.

The hotel is in quite a good location being close to the M61. The manager I spoke to was friendly and concerned, but obviously he was unable to make a significant difference to me during my stay.

This is the 3rd time I have stayed at the Mercure Bolton georgian House Hotel, and it has not let me down.
I have stayed a total of 12 nights in a variety of rooms, all of which have been clean, the service with the exception of 1 breakfast has been first class, the leisure facilities are very good, and the staff are very friendly and professional.

I would not hesitate iN recommending this hotel.

A 2 night stay in one of their "premium rooms" on business. (highly recommended as this includes breakfast, Internet and movies).

After a 7 hour drive from south Wales, thanks to the traffic on the M6, it was good to be back at this hotel. The staff were friendly and welcomed me back, even though it's quite some time since I've stayed here.

I was initially allocated room 435, which is a double size room on the top floor. This looks out onto the front of the hotel and due to the slope on the upper walls it is quite difficult to block out the lights that illuminate the front of the hotel, and there is background traffic noise from the A6. This is not a problem for me, and I would have been happy with the room, but try as we did several times, we could not get the wired Internet service (included in the premium room charges) to work.

I was moved to room 665 at the back of the hotel, which was slightly smaller and on the "bend" of the block, so more interesting than a basic square room. It also had a modern wooden frame four poster bed, slightly smaller than the one in my original room but more than sufficient for my needs.

Whilst the Internet worked fine in room 665, this is wired from the back of the TV which is well away from the work desk and power sockets in this particular room. I always carry a 10m Cat5 Ethernet extension cable when travelling on business, so this was not a problem for me - I don't know if the hotel has one available, as working on a PC with the Internet could be a problem if you did not have one to hand?

I arrived after dark, but in the morning the view from my room out across the hills to the east were amazing (for someone who now lives in Suffolk!) This was the first time I'd had an easterly facing view at this hotel, and can recommend you ask for this if it is available.

The bed was comfortable and I got a good nights’ rest. Breakfast on the first day (at around 08:00) was a self service buffet, with plenty of options both hot and cold - plus special order items from the menu on request.

On the second day I was slightly later at around 08:45 and thought that breakfast may have finished early, as there was no food out on the buffet when I arrived. One of the service staff came out and told me that it was now an order service, so I placed my order and this arrived after around a 5 to 10 minute wait. Whilst I was waiting other people came in (at around 09:00), and were going to walk out until I told them to speak with the serving staff - when they were seated and their orders taken. It may be wise to put up a sign informing guests of this, to prevent people walking out and/or complaining?

Check out was efficient on my last day, and the staff looked after me well during my stay - quickly sorting out the Internet issues etc.

My thanks to all at the hotel for a very pleasant stay.

Went to Georgian House hotel with 3 girlfriends on a Wahanda deal to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday. Rooms were of a good standard, we were at the back of the hotel and had great views over the hills. Spa facilities were good. The only glitch was that the jacuzzi jets weren't working very well although I guess they have been replaced by now, but the really warm temperature of the swimming pool more than made up for that. We had a 3 course meal included in the price and the food was of a very high standard. We did have to eat in the bar area as there was a wedding reception being held that night but the service was still good. The birthday girl even got a free dessert! The buffet breakfast next morning really set us up for the day. Good selection of quality food and anything missing or required was brought direct to the table for us. The breakfast staff really went the extra mile. Can't wait for next visit to this hotel.

Lovely friendly staff, couldnt do enough for you. Room very clean but desperate for an update. Restaurant food lovely cooked and displayed, we had our meal in the bar area which meant we could eat earlier with having a young child. All very accomodating. Pool was very warm, clean and nice, warmest pool we have ever been in at a hotel it was great.

Two people for two nights in a Superior Room with bed and breakfast and dinner for two on one of the nights. How much? Incredibly a total of £109.00 on a special offer! What was the catch? None! The Table d'Hote looked okay - £22.00 three courses and included in the total price. However we chose from a very extensive A La Carte menu against which we were credited with £22.00 each. The food, ambience and service were excellent. Throughout our stay all staff members were a pleasure to deal with. There was even free Internet and complimentary newspapers!

Stayed for two nights recently. Hotel was excellent. Staff friendly. Rooms and bathrooms sparkling clean. Very comfortable beds. Food of excellent standard, good quality and well cooked. Well worth the price paid for the offer available.
However as the online booking was not available when I tried to use it I booked by phone and although the operator tried to make out he was at the hotel it was obvious he was not. He made a monumental mess of the booking.
The hotel manager was as shocked as us at our experience and investigated the problem immediately.

We stayed at this hotel for one night en route to other places. It was perfectly clean, accommodating and friendly. It was great to have the use of a pool, but would comment that most of it was cordonned of for kids swimming lessons (very strange in a hotel pool) and the small remaining area was also full of screaming children and the poolside caked with clamouring mothers; very frustrating as an adult wanting a relaxing swim on a break away. The staff were helpful and courteous although there was a lack of them, not their fault but the hotel's. Overall we had great value for money for overnight accommodation, but cannot comment on the food as we at a restaurant at the Reebok stadium complex.

Stayed the night last night as part of National Holidays, Our driver commented on what the previous reviewer had mentioned, so we were asked to come down for tea at 4.45, so we would have plenty of time to get to Liverpool for the show. The meal was lovely and all the waiting staff were lovely, very pleasant and couldn't do enough for you. The hotel was extremely clean, and the rooms were lovely. Couldn't fault any of the staff, all helpful, and greeted you with a smile (most hotel's you are lucky to even get that) Breakfast was good with a serve yourself buffet style, but staff brought tea and coffee. I would stay here again and a big thank you to the staff

Booked a one night b&b and evening meal deal through Wahanda. It cost £50 each. So got a really good deal. 8 of us went to celebrate a friends 50th birthday. On arrival staff were very pleasant and even though it was before check in time our rooms were ready.

Rooms were small but exceptionally clean and perfectly adequate. We ate in the bar and really enjoyed a spinach wrap which was reasonably priced.

The pool was warm and clean though there isn't enough room to lie on loungers and there were only plastic chairs to sit on. Pool staff were very friendly and helpful.

We had booked the meal in the restaurant and we're seated straight away. We could chose off a set menu which was included in our deal or we had an allowance of up to £22 off the main menu.

Everyone was impressed with the starters but the trouble came with the mains. 2 steaks were ordered and they came out lukewarm as did the pork belly. We sent them back but it took 20 mins for a replacement and by that time everyone else had eaten their dinner the replacements were also lukewarm but we had lost our appetite by that stage. And it looked like the kitchen had closed. Staff were polite enough but they weren't around very often and we had to go looking for someone on a number of occasions and we weren't offered dessert or coffee so some people didn't even get the chance to use up their £22 allowance!! The restaurant manager did apologise and took the steaks off the price and also the wine but then tried to say we owed £140!! Took a while for him to understand when we tried to explain our evening meal was included in the deal we'd already paid for!

Breakfast next morning was excellent.

On check out we were told £4.45 was owed on each room for drinks. Totally confused I asked to speak to the duty manager. She was very pleasant and straight away apologised for this and when I explained the debacle in the restaurant she seemed mortified and again apologised saying it would be addressed as it wasn't acceptable.

We went up to the rooms to gather our bags and the manager knocked on the door with a box of chocolates and bottle of fizz for the birthday girl as a way of apology and said she would be sending vouchers out to me as another way of recompense for the trouble we'd had in the restaurant.

I have to say I was very impressed with the way our complaint was handled. The restaurant clearly has problems but management took our complaint seriously and they should be commended for that.

Hopefully the problems in the restaurant will be addressed as this is a nice hotel and we got an extremely good deal. For a cheap night away in a nice hotel you cant get much better and if the restaurant had sorted itself out I would have given it full marks
