Tony Potter, CEO of Calvert Trust Exmoor, led the Minister on a tour of the Centre accompanied by Dr. Tom Bigge, Chair of Trustees at Calvert Trust Exmoor, Lady Acland, President of The Calvert Trust, and John Gillett, a Vice President of Calvert Trust Exmoor and local government advisor on disability issues.

During the tour the Minister met staff and guests, explored the fully accessible facilities, and learnt more about how Calvert Trust Exmoor adapts and develops equipment to enable people with all types of disability to take part in a wide range of adventurous activities.

Justin Tomlinson, Minister for Disabled People said; "What a fantastic, amazing facility.  People with disabilities often tell me that they want to access the same opportunities as everyone else; Calvert Trust Exmoor demonstrates that anything and everything is possible, there are no barriers.”

During the visit John Gillett gave the Minister a demonstration of wheelchair abseiling.  This was the first time John had been involved in any rope based sport since the 36ft fall that put him in a wheelchair in October 1992.

Peter Heaton Jones said " This is my third visit to Calvert Trust Exmoor; I always leave here inspired, and I know the Minister will be too.  This is a facility we should be proud of at a national level; it’s fantastic that we have this Centre in our area.”

Tony Potter, CEO at Calvert Trust Exmoor; “We were delighted to welcome the Minister here today and give him an overview of our activities and aims.  He seemed very impressed with the Centre and enjoyed meeting our staff and guests.  All in all it was a very positive visit.”

Calvert Trust Exmoor is the South West’s premier holiday destination for people with disabilities, and the only 5 star accredited activity accommodation in the country.  We welcome over 4,000 residential guests and 5,000 day visitors a year with the philosophy of “At Calvert Trust Exmoor it’s what you CAN do that counts”.

This sums up our approach to what we do, we help people of all levels of ability to fulfill their potential and be all that they can be. For more information contact Rob Lott on rob@calvert-trust.org.uk or 01598 763221 with your requirements.
