North Devon is a treasure trove of beautiful countryside and coastline.  There are also some quaint beaches which are slightly off the beaten track, but are all the more glorious for being tucked away.

Here is our quick guide to some secret beaches that make living in North Devon all the better.

  • Lee Bay -  Lee is situated on the rugged and inhospitable stretch of coast between Ilfracombe and Woolacombe, but has a stunning little beach tucked just out of sight.
  • Crow Point – If Saunton Sands is packed with surfers, weddings and a car park fit to burst, then Crow Point may be just what you need.  If you head for the Burrows or if you're in Braunton, at the Tesco roundabout head straight over and turn left at the sign post.  Great for dogs to run and a bit of off the beaten track of chaos.
  • Woody Bay – Just off the A39 on the way to Lynton is a rocky little beauty of a beach.  The road will drop down into a wooded valley and you will be able to drop the car and stroll to a hidden gem for a lovely afternoon with a good book.   Make a note of the tides though, as when it's high there is little beach left.
  • Instow– Now I know what you're thinking, Instow is busy and overcrowded.  Bear with me!  If you walk either along the coastal path or head toward the Army Reserve and over the rocks toward Yelland, there is a part of Instow beach rarely explored.  Perfect to enjoy the sights and smells of the beach with none of the noise.
  • Northam Burrows – When heading to Appledore, take a left down Broad Lane and park up.  Take your beach towels out of the boot and lay them across the soft sand shut your eyes and unwind to inner peace.

When you find some hidden treasure in North Devon, whether a beach, park or local spot let us know and we can share the joy whilst keeping North Devon that little bit extra special.
