If you are looking for things to do either on your own or with the children this half term then there is a multitude of things in Barnstaple and the surrounding areas offering pleasant days out and activities. Why not visit The RHS Winter Sculpture Exhibition at Rosemoor, Torrington? A great day out is made even better with the wide variety of sculptures in the stunning gardens. Explore the gardens and look at the works of art on display and whether you are a budding (pardon the pun) gardener or an art enthusiast, or even new to both you'll enjoy the fresh air and perhaps some new ideas for your own garden.

Snowdrop Valley, close to Wheddon Cross offers a day out in a privately owned part of Exmoor. Carpeted with snowdrops, proving that spring is on its way, the walks in this valley also offer stunning scenery and wildlife. Wrap up warm and enjoy the exercise and beauty that this Valley has to offer!

Libbaton Golf Club welcomes all levels of players to its 18 hole course, 8 miles outside of Barnstaple. Take the kids along to their free open golf session for North Devon juniors on Wednesday 20th February between 10am - 2pm. All abilities are welcome! We'd love to see you whether you are a complete beginner or if you want to improve your game. Predominately for young people aged 9-16 but younger players can have a go by arrangement. Coaching is being provided by the club pro, Michael Parker. This taster session is free, all you need to do is turn up as all the equipment is provided.

Every Sunday, The Falcons Cheerleading squad trains at the Falcons Gymnastics Acadamy attached to the Tarka Tennis Centre, Barnstaple. All ages and abilities are welcome with both a Junior level, 4-12 year olds and Senior level 13 years +. The aim of the lessons is to provide a safe place for team work, confidence and fitness in young athletes. New players are always welcome at Barnstaple Rugby Football Club. Training is done under floodlights, using a squad system and in the presence of professional coaches. Check for different times for different age groups on their website. So if your children fancy an active sport for a hobby or even if you would like to train for fitness purposes then turn up for training at the relevant time.

Ilfracombe Table Tennis Junior Club nights are running at Cranmer Hall every Wednesday evening between 17.30-19.00. If your children are interested in a fun night out then they are welcome to attend. A thriving club with enthusiasts of all ages, who play for fun or even compete. Other sessions are available for training and playing league matches. Just contact them via our website.

If shopping and browsing is more your idea of half term relaxation then why not visit the Pannier Markets in Barnstaple or South Molton, or the Indoor Market at Ilfracombe. With a variety of products and wares for sale with friendly stall owners, then a morning of retail therapy at any of these three locations is well worth it! For more information regarding opening times and days, please visit the website

TheBestof Barnstaple hopes that you all enjoy this half term holiday and that we have given you some ideas as to what's on offer in your local area. Just check out our EVENTS page for a huge range of things to do. The support of the local community is one of the only things that keeps clubs and markets and charities such as the ones above open for all to enjoy!
