Whether you’re just looking to take your pet for a walk or fancy a day out, finding places that are dog friendly can be tricky.

We have lined up some of the best places to take your dog in North Devon.  Do you love walking?  Are you a rambler and everywhere you go your best friend follows?  With so many coastal paths and walks available we're heading up the perfect places in North Devon to visit.

With the Tarka Trail extending 30 miles from Braunton to Meeth, dogs can run till they can't run anymore and then will probably flop out, tongue panting and happy.  Using the unused railway line the Tarka Trail meanders through Barnstaple, Bideford, Torrington and many more beautiful rural villages.  Great for bikes, dogs and everyone, the trail is ideal as it’s away from cars and vehicles.  Some people even ride their bike and their dogs run along side them at the same time.

Tucked away in the village of Fremington is the hidden beauty of Griggs field.  With a huge area for dogs to run free, this park is perfect for dog lovers.  Giving your pup the chance to socialise with other dogs or if it's anything like mine, chase a ball for hours.  Not only does it have a bike trail, the cherry on top here is it backs onto a forest with a beautiful stream running through it.  Perfect for cooling down after a long walk. Dogs can weave through the trees and just be dogs.  It’s a great adventure for families!

Do you love to be beside the sea?  As North Devon is cradled by the Atlantic Coast there are plenty of beaches to enjoy.  With Instow being at the top of many dog owners lists, it is great for everyone to enjoy with dogs able to run free and enjoy a swim.  Why not take a picnic and make a day of it enjoying the sun, sea and slobber?

Another sandy location perfect for our canine friends is Braunton Burrows.  With miles of dunes to endure and the perfect opportunity for kite flying this is a great place for families.  You can walk all the way out to Saunton Sands and even treat everyone to an ice cream – Perfect!

In the centre of Barnstaple is Rock Park.  One of North Devon’s biggest parks you can not only tire the kids out on the swings, let the teenagers ride it out at the skate park, but you can also keep Fido happy with the miles of grass to run free on.  With lawn bowls for Grandma, refreshments available and free parking, it really has a lot to offer so go on and treat yourself.  You could take a football and see who can get the most goals!

Enjoy!
