Where would we be if the Romans had not introduced the vine to Britain nearly 2000 years ago?

The UK wine industry is now recognised as a premium wine-producing region, with English and Welsh wines winning many prestigious international awards.  There are over 400 vineyards in England and Wales covering some 3,500 acres and producing sparkling and still wines.  Where can you purchase our home grown wines - Waitrose is one of the few major retailers in the UK championing our home grown wines.

From Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc to Pinot Noir and Triomphe there are almost 30 British wine varieties growing here right now!  White, red, dry or sweet there's sure to be the perfect taste somewhere in those English wines to suit everybody.

We can't call our English sparkling wines by that the name Champagne - but we really do have some great contenders.  Why not try a bottle of Nyetimber's Classic Cuvee and see for yourself?

If you already know the wines you like it's always great to try new things.  To enjoy some of the best foods with the best wine, find a list of restaurants offering a free glass of wine with each meal and English wine tasting.  Or if you fancy a tour, arty exhibition and tastings at a vineyard just check out the official website for more information at:  http://www.englishwineproducers.co.uk/.

Finally if you can't make any of that you can always savour a great bottle of wine with some delicious food cooked at home.  You deserve to relax!

Cheers!
