What is involved in Speed Networking?

Speed Networking is a fun and effective way to accelerate your networking. You can meet more quality contacts and actually have more meaningful conversations in just one event than any other method! It doesn’t matter if you are outgoing or retiring, a new business or experienced, everyone has the same chance to listen to what it is that other businesses are looking for and tell them how they can help.

How does it work? Chairs are arranged such that everyone has a series of 2 minute focussed one to one mini-meetings with everyone else. Typically half the participants remain seated while, on the ringing of a bell, the other half move one place down. Because of the speed, this does lend a slightly chaotic feel to the event, but that just adds to the fun and breaks the ice!

It is essential to bring plenty of business cards and to have thought in advance about what you need to say in the short time available – What does your business do? Who are its products/services for? What is special about them? Once everyone has met everyone else there is then the chance to have a more relaxed conversation with whoever you want (plus another cup of tea!)

Following up on the meetings is then key to building on the relationship and making new business partnerships.

Above all, these are usually fun events that you leave feeling exhausted but energised with a host of new contacts!

The next thebestof Abingdon Speed Networking event is on 17th May from 5 – 7pm – all welcome. Details here.
