Easter is nearly upon us – which means the arrival of the Easter holidays! There are lots of things going on around Abingdon to entertain the children, and here is our pick of the best places to go.

1. The Earth Trust, Little Wittenham

If you only went to one place during the Easter holidays, The Earth Trust would be a fantastic choice.  There are a whole host of activities going on:

  • Lambing weekends on 21/22 March and 28/29 March.
  • Easter bunny hunt on 5 April.
  • Bug hunting at Abbey Fishponds in the heart of Abingdon, which is run by The Earth Trust, on 7 April.
  • Clumps club - wild adventures for children aged 8-12yrs.
  • A woodland adventure - a game of detective in the woods.
  • Family bushcraft – a day of adventure for all the family.
  • Little explorers - a sensory buggy walk for babies and toddlers.
  • Discover and play - pre-school outdoor fun.

2. Traditional Easter egg hunt at The Plough, Long Wittenham.

If you are keen to do a traditional Easter egg hunt, then head down to The Plough on Sunday 29th March 11am-2pm.

The hunt will start and end at The Plough, where there will be lots of Easter activities, including face painting and egg and spoon races.

Entry is £2.50 per child, adults are FREE

3. Sutton Courtenay Nature Reserve

A lesser known venue is the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust’s nature reserve in Sutton Courtenay.  They are also hosting a range of activities for children during the Easter holidays.

  • Pond power – pond dipping activities.
  • Amphibian adventures – see if you can survive a day as a frog.
  • Nature tots – nature fun for pre-schoolers.

4. White Horse Hill, Uffington

If you are looking for something with a little more history behind it, there are few places more historical than the Uffington White Horse. This year, this National Trust venue will be hosting an Easter Egg hunt, and a wildlife spotting day where the ranger will reveal details of the exciting past of the amazing horse.

5. Harcourt Arborteum

Visit another beautiful setting for an Easter trail.  Discover the arboretum with the new explorer backpacks.  They are also running a number of other activities – an Easter egg hunt and animal craft activities on 31st March and plant craft activities on 7th April.
