The Henley Dragons

Take part in one of the most exciting and friendly team sports on the water. We compete in the British Dragon Boat Association (BDA) racing league and participate in international events from time to time too. The Henley Dragons are extensively represented at International level in the various Great Britain Dragon Boat squads

Off the water we have a busy calendar of social events too, which ensures there is never a dull moment.

We want you

We are always on the lookout for new members and the following information will tell you who we are and what we do. We look forward to seeing you soon.

What is Dragon boating?

Dragon boating is now one of the fastest growing water sports in the UK. Brightly painted fibreglass boats are decorated with a dragon’s head and tail. The boats hold 20 paddlers sitting side-by-side. There is a helm who steers the boat and the paddlers are kept in time by a drummer who beats a large drum. If you are looking for a fun and challenging new sport then why not give it a go?

About our club

Henley Dragon Boat Club began in 1991 and some of the original founders are still members of the club today. We meet at the The Eyot Centre, Wargrave Road, Henley on Thursday evenings at 7:00pm and on Sunday mornings at 10:00am. We train throughout the year on the River Thames between Marsh Lock and Hambleden

What does the club provide?

Henley Dragons will provide you with comprehensive coaching and safety instruction. At The Eyot Centre we have changing facilities, a gym, parking and all the equipment you need including a paddle.

What do I need to bring?

A change of clothes for after training and a towel (you may get splashed) and a water bottle.

What should I wear?

Warm lightweight layers or sportswear (no denim or wool jumpers as these can weigh you down)

Trainers

Hat and/or gloves (Winter months)

What does it cost?

Absolutely nothing for your first 3 sessions! Then if you decide to continue, club membership costs £150 for adults with reduced fees for juniors or family memberships.

When can I come and try the sport?

As soon as possible! Drop us an e-mail to info@henleydragons.com and we’ll arrange for an experienced paddler to welcome you and to buddy you during your first few sessions!
