The proms season is upon us and teenagers’ bedrooms are filling with flounces, heels, fake tan and flowers. The end of year dance of a few years ago has morphed into a full blown American-style prom, fuelled by our viewing of shows such as Hannah Montana and Glee. Having started as a leaving function for 17 – 18 year olds, proms are now common as a rite of passage for leaving primary school education too.
With this has come a huge increase in demand for prom dresses and men’s suits. Moss Bros saw the sale of suits for the 2012 prom season overtake that for any other time of year for the first time. Older boys expect to re- use their suits for job interviews etc., so are purchasing instead of hiring if at all possible.
For girls with long hair the decision about how to wear it for the big night is a major one. Loose and wavy? Curl it? Half up, half down? Much depends on your make up, height, dress shape etc., but well worth experimenting in advance.
YouTube has a vast library of videos on how to do your own (or a friend’s) hair for the prom or wedding, but if you want your hair, tanning or make up done professionally don’t forget that so may everyone else, so book an appointment well in advance! Creations Hair and Beauty in Abingdon specialises in hair-ups, so you could contact them for a chat or to make an appointment.
If you’re looking for professional tanning, make up or nails for the big night we recommend Utopia Beauty Salon, The Nail & Beauty Lounge or Creations Hair & Beauty – all in Abingdon and all of whom have great customer recommendations.
