Getting your business set up so that it’s established and trading profitably is hard work, but as soon as you get there, you realise it’s just the beginning; if you’re ambitious and hungry for more success, you’ll want to grow your business to the next level.  To do this, you’re going to need help – and funds, but before you approach your bank or investors, are you sure you’ve had what’s due to you in the form of Government grants?

According to the Department for Innovation and Skills, micro, small and medium sized businesses accounted for 99.9 per cent of all private sector businesses in the UK, employed 14.4 million people, and had a combined turnover of £1,600 billion as of October 2013. SME’s are the backbone of the UK economy, so it’s not surprising that the Government wants to see businesses like yours grow and flourish –  and has a diverse range of schemes in place to help you do just that.
Accessing a grant could give you the means to transform your business if growth is planned strategically; you will need to review your business’s current position, identify the steps you’re going to need to take, and define a bespoke plan to unlock potential.
The Gov.UK website is a good source of information on business finance and support schemes - there are grants available for a wide range of purposes including, support to employ an apprentice, help for manufacturing companies, grants to help businesses take on employees with disabilities, and much more besides. One scheme you’ll almost certainly be interested in if you’re serious about growing your business, is GrowthAccelerator:
GrowthAccelerator is a partnership between some of the UK’s leading, private sector growth specialists – Grant Thornton, Pera, Oxford Innovation and Winning Pitch – and it’s backed by the Government. The scheme is designed specifically to propel your business into its next phase of growth by helping you to:
-Build a successful growth strategy.
-Discover new routes to funding and investment.
-Unlock your capacity for innovation.
-Build on the power of your leaders with up to £2k match funding per senior manager.
GrowthAccelerator supports you with coaching, workshops and master classes, and coaching sessions are led by your own Growth Coach – an expert in helping small and medium sized companies to accelerate and sustain their growth. There are also networking opportunities with other businesses and growth experts, as well as access to up to £2k match funding for training senior managers. The cost of GrowthAccelerator is dependent on the size of your business, but you will pay a fixed fee, and the Government makes a major contribution.
