Originally owned by the Vale of the White Horse District Council, ownership of the Guildhall was transferred to Abingdon Town Council in 2011. The building costs £120K per year to operate (apart from planned development costs), so needs to become self-sustaining as soon as possible.
Phase 1 of the development (to the older part of the building) is now complete and Phase 2 (development of the modern part) can now start. The Council is dedicated to re-energising and re-establishing the Guildhall as a centre for cultural excellence, performance, entertainment and media.
The Guildhall needs to become a lively and well used hub for the community – giving people of all ages a reason to come into the town centre and therefore also contribute to the town’s overall vitality
