An evening in The Broad Face in Abingdon

The Broad Face in Abingdon was recently taken over by Dushan, who has put 24 hours a day and seven days a week into bringing it up to the excellent standard it now demonstrates. Dushan is determined that all the food served here is fresh, local where possible and cooked in the traditional way – he refuses to use a microwave. He has an excellent wine list and the House wines are very high quality. The decor of the dining room has been brought up to date and is the feeling is now one of contemporary modern ease. The result, as I found out on Friday evening, is a wonderful evening out.

My husband and I shared a starter of liver pate and salad and I then had a fillet of cod in parmesan breadcrumbs with a warm salad nicoise. The cod was expertly cooked and the salad was perfected with Puy lentils. My husband meanwhile had slow roasted lamb shank with mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables, which again he declared wonderful. The dessert menu had several possible options from my point of view, so in order to make my decision I asked which of them were home made. I was astonished to find out that they all were - this should really be better publicised! I therefore opted for the best tiramisu I have ever had, so do give The Broad Face a try!
