The summer holidays are very nearly upon us, and that feeling of fear is creeping up on hundreds of parents – how do I keep the children amused for the next 6 weeks? Do not fear, we have a list of different activities and events to tempt you, and the most unruly of children, during July and August.

  • Abbey Meadow Outdoor Pool & Fountains

The outdoor pool and fountains have to be the top attraction in Abingdon during the school holidays.  Suitable for all ages, there is a kiosk to get ice creams and coffee.  Not only do you have the pool and water features, but the playground is next door, or Abbey Gardens is close by for those who would prefer to admire the beautiful planting.  Something for all the family.

  • Summer Music Festival 26/7/14

A day of family fun and fundraising in the market square in Abingdon.

  • Frame It – Craft Activities at Abingdon County Hall Museum 13/8/14

The County Hall Museum is worth a visit at any time – if only to see the amazing views of Abingdon. However there is also a craft event running in conjunction with the photography exhibition on 13th August.

  • Abingdon Gym Holiday Classes

Need to burn off some energy? Abingdon Gymnastics Club in Berinsfield run fun recreational days on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-4pm.  Contact them to book a space.

  • Snakes and Ladders

An Abingdon favourite – particularly in wet weather – this soft play centre will keep children of all ages amused for hours.

  • Pendon Indoor Model Village & Railways

Visit Pendon in the year of its 60th anniversary.  In Long Wittenham, visit this museum for a 90 minute tour of the model railway, which is set in the 20s and 30s.  Open at weekends, and on Wednesdays throughout July and August.

  • Harcourt Arboretum

Lots of activities are going on at Harcourt throughout the summer, so if you want to get out and explore the outdoors, then head to Harcourt in Nuneham Courtenay.

  • Waterperry Gardens

Waterperry is another outdoor venue with a lovely café for a cake or some lunch. There is a pirate themed orienteering treasure trail to follow during the summer.

  • Millets Maize Maze

18th July – 14th September

10am – 6pm

Millets Farm is always a great day out, and there are lots of activities within the Maze to add to the fun.  Worth booking your tickets in advance for the maze as you will receive 10% off.

  • The Earth Trust

Situated just next to Wittenham Clumps, The Earth Trust offers a range of activities for children from toddlers upwards during July and August.  There are buggy walks, forest adventures, pond dipping and family bushcraft.

Check the website for details of all the events on offer.
