The remainder of 2012 promises to be a busy time for Wrexham based Simon O'Rourke as he's been chosen to lead the European Team at the World Championships taking place in Mulda, Germany in May. This incredible honour's been bestowed upon Simon thanks to some of his recent projects, that include carving the UK's largest tree into an awe-inspiring piece of art at Lake Vrnwy in Wales, giving a new state-of-the-art school in Liverpool a bespoke sculpture trail, and helping his local country park provide little ones with hours of fun with a selection of sculpted min-beasts.

During the tournament, Simon and his team-mates, England's Tommy Craggs and Germany's Michael Tamosaza, will compete against some of the world's top chainsaw sculptors turning trees into works of art inspired by the theme set by Andreas Martin, the event's organiser.  Simon is particularly proud to have been asked to Captain Team Europe, as the competition is invite only, and he knows that his three-man team will have to work hard to impress the judges in front of a enthusiastic crowd.

Simon will then take part in two of the USA's most prestigious carving competitions later in the summer; the Chetwynd Champion of Champions tournament and the 13th annual Chainsaw Championships held in Reedsport, Oregan.  And closer to home, Simon can be seen showing off his skills at the English Open Chainsaw Championships over the August Bank Holiday weekend, during the Cheshire Game and Country Show.
