Warwick has been shortlisted to be the world’s first ever Walt Disney World “twin town”! This is following a competition run by Disney for people to nominate their hometowns if they feel they are a good match for Disney World.
Warwick was nominated by Daryl Unitt from Warwick, among others and is now on a shortlist with 24 other towns around the UK including quite a few from the Midlands, such as Birmingham, Bedworth & Coventry.
Over 500 people from across the UK got involved and nominated their town, with the prize being a trip to Walt Disney World in Florida for up to a family of 4. This trip will be a part of the twinning ceremony with mayor of Main Street, USA. Daryl's entry included a photograph of Warwick Castle lit by fireworks. Daryl said: “Warwick, just like Disney World Resort in Florida, attracts people from all over the world to marvel at its castle and experience a world leading experience.”
Apparently some entries even included poems and even videos showcasing why their towns deserve to win the title!
The shortlist will now go before a team of judges, including TV star Angellica Bell, Vice President Creative Inc, Walt Disney World, Duncan Wardle, Vice President and managing director of Disney Destinations International UK, Hugh Wood, and one of the famous Walt Disney Imagineers, Patrick Brennan, to select the winning town. The announcement will be made on 7 December.
