Things to check on your car before that long summer journey

If you are driving long distances this summer then take the time to check that your vehicle is fully prepared to ensure you have a hassle free & safe journey.

  • It is important that your tyres have sufficient (& legal) tread but are also appropriate for the type of driving you are doing.
  • Be sure to check your tyre pressure according to the type of driving you are doing. This should also be adjusted to allow for heavy loads, towing etc.
  • Wheels should be balanced for safety & fuel efficiency.

Make sure that your vehicle is in good health to lower the risk of breakdown & also to make sure you get better fuel efficiency. Bear in mind that the breakdown service companies have far longer waiting times during holiday periods & will cost you more money in the long run if something goes wrong. So it is well worth trying to reduce any issues & hassle by checking the following:

  • Check the oil & water levels on your vehicle.
  • Make sure that your vehicle has been serviced recently. This will help with fuel efficiency & lower the risk of any problems cropping up.
  • Get your vehicle checked periodically for important safety features such as steering, suspension and brakes.
