Leamington Royals Rugby League, Warwickshires Premier Rugby League are gearing up for 2011 season! The club topped off a fantastic season by being crowned Warwick District Council 'Team of the Year' in its annual sports awards.
The Leamington Spa based Rugby League club won the award at the Warwick District Sports Awards presented by WDC Chief Executive, Chris Elliot. The awards took place at the Town Hall in Leamington with guest speaker, former Olympian over 5000 metres, David Moorcroft OBE and were attended by teams from across the district. The Royals were represented well and scooped up what many believe to be the most prestigious award of the evening.
All winners were nominated by Courier and Weekly News readers, with a shortlist drawn up by a panel of journalists and district council officials. Royals founder Ash Howlett collected the award along with current captain Marcus Pask. The Royals were up against stiff opposition from Hunningham Cricket Club and Leamington Athletics Club (masters).
Leamington Royals Rugby League were earlier crowned Co-operative RLC Regional Champions 2010 back in August 2010 in only their second season. Winning the league in the way we did was a fantastic achievement said captain, Marcus Pask. He added, We are a serious outfit and club and have undoubtedly proved that this evening. Winning the Sports Team of the Year is a huge achievement and one that everyone at the club can be proud of!.
