Last week at Aldermoor Farm Primary School in Coventry, students took part in a creative writing competition organised by the BITC (Business in the Community) to coincide with World Book Day. The event was in conjunction with local businesses such as Southam based specialist contractors The Alumet Group.

This challenge involved representatives from local businesses working with the students to write an alternate version of the Snow White fairytale. The fairytale involved a little twist whereby Snow White was to encounter seven construction contractors instead of seven dwarfs, in reflection of the housing development taking place near the school.

The project was organised by BITC’s Employee Volunteering Broker Mary Judge and aimed to help prepare the children for their SAT’s creative writing examinations in the summer. They were also encouraged to design illustrations for the story as part of their artistic development.

Mary organised a morning’s gathering whereby all the authors came together at Aldermoor Farm Primary School to read out sections of the story. As a reward for all the hard work endured by the pupils the Fairytale has now been published.

Alumet Director, Dean Walton commented “We were very proud to be involved with this project and have enjoyed every step of the challenge. SAT’s are a very important stage of children’s education and we are happy to have been offered the opportunity to help improve their skills.”
