Luckily for me, I live very near to an entrance to the wilderness part of the Arboretum where it stops at the canal. It's like being in the country and you can walk, run or cycle through acres of space before you get to the Grange carpark, main area of the park.
Even walking through the park does not feel like Walsall.
It is wonderful most of the time. Only scummy people will detract your pleasure, from this Victorian Park.
They do not have the meticulously kept flowerbeds from my childhood, but considering how run down the rest of Walsall is, it's a relief from the litter, squalor and urban decay that has befallen the rest of this once proud, wealthy town.
There is now an open air gym facility as well as the older exercise area, the tennis courts I fo still use, I'm not sure if crown green bowls is still available and I haven't seen anyone rowing about on the lake either but Parkrun is still on every Saturday at 9.00am which again, I do utilize.
I would probably move away if it were not for the Arboretum.
Walsall has nothing else to offer anymore.
So yes the Arboretum is not only the Jewel in The Crown of Walsall. It is the only jewel.

This park is very big and beautiful. Kids have a lot of play ground. There is also a newly built outdoor gym 🏋️‍♂️ 💪. It's a beautiful place to be especially in the summer.

We managed to park in front of the park. It was a short walk to the water features and general play area. There were a couple of people cleaning up and watching over the area.

Clean and pretty. Huge amount of flat land with things for the kids. Great for a picnic. Only problem was some homeless people.

The splash pad is rarely open anymore. The chlorine levels are always high is the reason they give you. It’s a good spot for picnic and day out though.

Nice park, very spacious and lots of places to walk around.

Good for kids, bike trails, and for picnics. There is a place where kids can play in the water but was under maintenance when I visited

It is one of the most beautiful parks in West Midlands. Stunning surroundings with the little fountain in the middle of the pond, large kiddies playground, small caffe. On the weekends sometimes some events, music, dances, etc. And the main feature in the summer is kiddies fountain area.

Something for everyone to enjoy at the Arboretum. Loved walking through the orchard and around the park. The skate park was fun for older kids and next to it was the play area for youngsters. The only concern was the smell of weed on the walk back to the car park in the early evening.
