Was primarily interested in the history of the army regiments from Somerset, and it didn't disappoint.
At Rourke's drift, Lt John Chard was commissioned in the Royal Engineers, but was a proud Somerset man!
Worthwhile paying a visit for all that is on offer, and making a small donation.

Loved our visit on Saturday 12th July 2025. Full of amazing rare artifacts and exhibits. Favourites for us were the mosaic and the Cheddar Brooch. It was thrilling to see the objects in person rather than just on the TV.
Staff and volunteers were really friendly and knowledgeable and you could tell they were happy to be there.
The cafe was reasonably priced and the food we had was delicious, especially the cheese scone!!
Will be visiting again and highly recommend that you do too. It is free to visit but please make a donation as we need to keep places like this open.
