We arrived for Sunday carvery to be met with a queue to book in……
Told our table number, only to find another family sat at it
Table next to it empty, but it appeared to be a problem…. Eventually resolved by offering us the empty table….
Queued for the carvery, which I thought was delicious, despite what others have written.
Meat was tender and the gravy flavorsome
The thing that left the lunch down was the lack of service and at the end of the meal having to join a queue to pay
These things are easily fixable and would have made the lunch more enjoyable .
Set up a separate till
Show guests to their tables
Clean down the carvery area when there are spillages to ensure clean and tidy at all times
Bring the bills to the tables and take payment

Best pub/restaurant around Taunton tucked away but easily found . We received the best welcome on arrival even with having 4 people, with a dog, turning up with no reservation. We were shown to a table without having to wait and the drink orders taken immediately. After ordering , the food arrived with in 10 mins . What a surprise we had . The presentation of the food has a WOW factor from all of us . My husband and I ordered the lunch time platter including scotch eggs , home made chutney, coleslaw and pickled celery ( delicious) along with warm fresh bread and a LARGE selection of cold meats . The pasta dish my daughter ordered was huge . To say the food was just delicious. Service was outstanding and everyone was so welcoming . We have eaten in many places around Taunton and surrounding areas but this little oasis is just outstanding. If you haven’t visited it yet, put this on your list . I promise you won’t be disappointed. Well done to everyone in the establishment, first class service all round . This is now going to be our regular.

Had a lovely meal here, we tried the chicken dish which was delicious. The service was great, the only thing that I could say is that things had run out, there were no homemade scotch eggs and no pie, which was the meal i wanted originally. The puddings were scrummy, we had the chocolate fudge cake and the crumble - portions are good sized too. Fast service as well, no hanging around.

Having read all the complimentary reviews we thought we would try this venue for Sunday lunch. A packed car park looked promising and on ordering drinks we were taken to our table. We immediately noticed a complete lack of atmosphere and decor to the building as if we were eating in a village hall not helped by the front door almost constantly opening. We were grateful however that our table was not positioned either side of the carvery queue where you are viewed upon and have people walking past you constantly. Obviously landlords want to maximise the area to the full for greater profits and in this respect it has been achieved. The queue for the carvery was considerable long however which never relents and not ideal with those later in years. The food itself however was excellent with generous portion’s and very well carved and excellent roast potatoes but again no lamb on the menu today. We felt it was rather pricey including the drinks, lacked atmosphere and have enjoyed other venues better and am surprised at the great reviews.

Had chosen this pub for a family reunion/ birthday celebration specifically because of the child friendly expectations after looking on their website. Sadly disappointed to discover a rundown play area at the far end of a large field. The children’s ’farm’ corner needs a lot of tlc and removal or replacement of broken toys. There’s so much room in the field to erect some decent play equipment and lots of potential to attract families.
I was also put off by the bucket of used cigarette ends by the main entrance! The food was mostly enjoyed and the staff were friendly. However, sadly we won’t be coming back.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding Sunday Carvery Experience at The Allerford Inn!

We visited The Allerford as a family for their Sunday carvery and were absolutely blown away — it was divine! From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and incredibly accommodating, especially with our family's additional needs. It's clear they are SEN-friendly and genuinely care about creating a comfortable experience for all.

The carvery itself was exceptional — generous portions, beautifully cooked meats, and a fantastic selection of fresh vegetables and sides. I opted for the £25 plate, and it was worth every penny. The quality and quantity were spot on, making it great value for money.

And the puddings? Even better! Rich, indulgent, and the perfect way to end the meal. Everyone left happy, full, and already planning our next visit.

Highly recommended for families, especially those looking for a relaxed, inclusive dining experience with top-notch food. Thank you, Allerford team!

Can’t believe the review below. And how on earth that warrants a one star review. Food on the floor, yeah a few bits near the carvery but what do you expect when parents are not supervising their children when they plate up. ignore that review please as it’s so irritating and way off the mark. It’s a carvery for goodness sake, not fine dining.

We nipped in for a carvery as it’s our local today, really yummy meats well cooked and fresh not bookers cash and carry meat but nice local produce. Will defo visit again.

We have visited many times and the food is always well prepared and the pies…. OMG to die for!

Dont let imbeciles like the one below effect what you do Allerford!
