Visited the Allerford inn with 2 friends in the evening, we all had the steak pie
which was delicious, could have done with some veg with it instead of
chips though. Not many people in that night, Tuesday, Good menu, enjoyed it, will return..

We visited The Allerford whilst on a weekend away and I must say our experience was really great! We got seated within 5 minutes of walking in, the service was excellent and the food was really good! We visited with our two young daughters and they were very accommadating with amending the menu to what they like.
Really tasty food for fair prices!!

My wife and I wanted an early Sunday Lunch so booked a table for 12:00; when we arrived all was very quiet. I was concerned that this newly re-opened pub was not attracting enough business. We bought our drinks, got our carvery ticket and went to the carvery. There was a choice of Beef, Pork and Turkey. with a good selection of vegetables, and of course Yorkshire puddings. I chose just beef, my wife beef and turkey. The beef was tender and had a good taste. The vegetables were good too, and enabled me to exceed my five a day. An enjoyable lunch, we didn't want dessert. Certainly on my worth another visit list. As for my initial concern, when we left just after 12:30 it was filling up nicely and I overheard the man behind the bar turning a phone enquiry down because they were fully booked. Deservedly so, mental reminder to phone first when planning a repeat visit (01823 461119)

Recently re-opened, have been there 5-6 times over last few weeks for a mix of food and just drinks.
Very nicely fitted out with large patio deck and rear garden and decent front garden with seating. Inside it's very open feeling but there are several distinct areas that cover the options from simply sitting with a drink to eating, whether it's 2 of you or a large party. Very well thought out and spaced out, there isn't anywhere where you feel you're on top of other people or having to squeeze between tables.
A small menu which covers all the bases means that everything is cooked on site which is a welcome change from pubs with large, multi-option menus where it's impossible to have everything fresh as wastage would be ruinous.
Spoke with the landlord and this is a very deliberate approach as they want everything to be, in his words, "perfect" - and they're not far off. His only concession was that they might add some daily specials at a later stage!
As to the food itself, simple (ie non-pretentious), extremely well cooked and well presented. Of the things we've tried, the field mushrooms with pesto and blue cheese are superb, as is the sausage and mash and, joy of joys, you are actually asked how you'd like your burger cooked!! I had mine medium rare and they got it spot on.
Add to this a welcoming, friendly and very effective team of bar and waiting staff and a good selection of beers and wines and this must rate as a top place to go either for a casual drink on a lazy afternoon or some very good food.
We will be making regular visits (I plan to work my way through the menu) and while I'd really like to keep this place to myself, that wouldn't be fair on the rest of the population.

My wife and I made our first visit to this pub which reopened recently after a long period out of use. It has been renovated in a very tasteful way, looks great from the outside and there's plenty of different seating areas inside to suit everyone's needs from a cosy corner for two, to large family or a large group get-together. We visited on spec on 30th August arriving around 12:30 and it was reasonably busy at this time, and got busier during the next hour or so. Nevertheless we ordered drinks and got a table without a problem. We decided to go for the Carvery which consisted of 3 meats, roast potatoes, potato dauphinoise, Yorkshire pudding and a vast array of fresh vegetables to choose from.
Everything I selected was served hot and very tasty, an excellent meal for the very reasonable price charged.
I was a very surprised by another visitor's review which I assume to have been for the same day that we visited, as it was completely different to our own experience. True, there isn't a "meet and greet" person like you have in some of those pub chains to book you in and escort you to your table, but personally I am not a fan of such places as invariably, you end up queuing at the meet and greet station waiting to be seated. I much prefer to go direct to the bar, order a drink, pick up a menu and get my table number and directions if necessary, not difficult really. As for the staff, I found them all to be courteous and helpful, keeping tables clear of empty glasses and plates on a regular basis,, taking dessert orders, relaying tables etc. certainly not wandering around aimlessly as I have read elsewhere.
Our bill for two good quality carvery meals and four alcoholic drinks was under £30 - certainly very reasonable!
The pub is definitely a little off the beaten track, and will not get a lot of passing trade, so it will rely a lot on word of mouth, hence this review. However it is well worth giving it a try and then you can make your own mind up. We'll definitely be returning again in the future.

My partner and I both thoroughly enjoyed our carvery at the Allerford Inn. The meat was amazingly tender and there was a wide variety of delicious vegatables on offer. The pudding was delicious too! Lovely surroundings and staff to boot...... would definitely recommend!

Thank you for a nice weekend welcoming my family and friends. Place children friendly and the gardens give them a lot of space to run round. Ellie and Paul (staff) were really friendly and helpful and worked hard to make the weekend successful. Friends and family all commented positively about the venue and food. Also good value for money.
