The society is the official town twinning society. It maintains friendship.
Anyone, of any age, living in Chard and surrounding villages can join our society. Its aim is to foster good relationships between Chard and Helmstedt and their inhabitants by organising cultural, social educational activities. Each alternate year one town visits the other, generally travelling by coach. We stay with a host family for the duration of the trip. When people from Helmstedt visit Chard we make every effort to find a host family for them.

At Golden-Oldies we believe that singing is the best way to put a smile on your face. We run monthly singing sessions where we sing songs from the 50s 60s and 70s. You don’t need to have a good voice, just so long as you enjoy music, then Goldies is for you. We ask for a £2 donation towards running costs, but we don’t turn anybody away. Why not come along to your next session and see if it’s for you.
Our sessions in Chard take place in The Boden Centre on Boden Street, Chard on the first Thursday of each month from 10.30am – 11.30am.

The atmosphere is deliberately informal, where people feel welcome, supported and un-pressurised.
