Saturday 14th June
1st XI Away v Himley
Knowle & Dorridge Winning Draw 10
K&D lost the toss on a flat & slow Himley wicket and were inserted into bat. Alex Phillips and Richard Johnson got us off to an excellent start putting on 85 for the first wicket before Jonno was caught for 46, Hilly and AP continued the momentum and scored quickly in the process taking us to 198 - 2 before Hilly was caught on the boundary for 51, AP played beautifully and reached a very well deserved first league hundred of the season before falling for 102. Good contributions from Reddo and myself kicked the score onto 282 - 6 which I think we all thought was 50 above par.
Once again we bowled with excellent discipline and control, Michael Bevan 1-18 and Will Mottram 1-23 the wicket takers but Jack Grundy also deserved more from his opening spell. Then as has been the case in the number of games this season the rain began to fall and eventually both captains accepted defeat.
I do believe it should be the umpires decision to decide when play should restart and feel that they need to be stronger in these situations rather than leave it to the captains to agree which very rarely happens.
Although disappointed not to get the win I was delighted with the performance and the way we batted as a team, we are right in the mix and travel to last years champions Shrewsbury, we definitely owe them one and despite their current league position understand how tough a challenge this will be but we are looking forward to it. Thanks for everyone's continued support its very much appreciated. TMH
