Hairdressing student Liann White has secured her place in the final of a national hairdressing competition after coming second in the West Midlands regional heat.

28-year-old Liann, who is studying the Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing at Solihull College’s Woodlands Campus, was tasked with creating an innovative style that could be transformed from a day to evening look.

Liann, from Smith’s Wood in Solihull, comments: “I was really keen to show off my creativity in the competition and I’m so excited to have got through to the finals. I will soon be finishing my course and hoping to get a job in a salon, so I hope this achievement will help me to progress in my career.”

The 28-year-old mother-of-one will be competing against student hairdressers from across the country at the AHT National Competition in Blackpool in March.

She will be recreating the same style as in the regional heat, which involves cutting the model’s hair on the night before the competition and then styling it in front of the judges.

Yvonne Malpass, Head of School for Hair and Beauty at Solihull College, comments: “I am extremely proud of Liann and she thoroughly deserves her place. Since she started the Level 1 Diploma she has shown a great level of confidence and a real determination to succeed. She is an asset to the College and we all wish her well in the Finals.”

Solihull College offers the Level 1, 2 and 3 Diploma in Hairdressing from state-of-the-art salons at its Hair and Beauty Academy, based at the Blossomfield and Woodlands campuses.
