I had been with Howden, and its previous incarnations, for a number of years and thought it time to shop around for a better deal.
I found they were still competitive on price. Speaking with them (yes, you can speak with a living person :-) ) and taking their advice, I combined two policies for not much more than the single one, and received a refund from a second company.
There is a feeling of the personal touch with Howden probably lacking with other companies.

The company acknowledged the loyalty I have given them for a good number of years. When my car renewal came due which had increased considerably, I checked with other companies and found a policy somewhat cheaper. Howdens went some way to match and we eventually found a compromise that we both found acceptable. No irrational behaviour, just normal talking.
I am happy with the outcome. Howdens have my loyalty for another year at least!
